News from HQ / Re: Checkered Flag Doug Cresanta
February 27, 2026, 09:42:09 PM
I met Doug and Kathy about 1986 back when he was running around in his brown 65 coupe with all his own mods . We talked Shelbys and later that year i bought my 68 . We always had great long conversations revolving around  the cars and the history  from the guy who was in the factory when the cars were built .  He always was  on the hunt for a carryover car  and then he found 188 . At the time i was running a small shop in nj . we went thru the 66 and cleaned it top to bottom . stuck the race motor and trans from the coupe into the 66. repowered the coupe and sold it to a guy in Norway.
Many conventions and events together followed /    Then he threw a phone number too me  for a job interview.  Before I knew it I was restoring cobras and boss 302 race cars and Shelbys full time . And that crazy path has not stopped since.

Gonna miss him  But he sure left a great memories .

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Re: Export braces
February 27, 2026, 06:26:04 PM
Rarely will i  go against the Speegle  word ......But  1967 /1968   "shelbys " would use same wide spaced  export brace   so even if it was early 68 it would have the 68 67  style.   the 65 66 style is really not  a direct fit without  the cowl brace  and equal spaced holes .  but the 67 68 will fit back to 65 with wide spacing and no cowl brace .  It would have made more sense to drill the cowl on the cars with even spaced export rather than the export brace.

Looks like an early equal spaced with extra holes .  1965 1966/ By the time your done fixing it it would be smarter to buy a good one . for a 68

Yes but "outsiders" consider those details so esoteric that they question our rational.

Quote from: gt350shelb on January 17, 2026, 10:58:53 AMI have replaced thousands  of these air bags ....  in all the other cars .  really only ones that seem to  possibly have issues are the rangers and convert mustangs .   these 2 are always very rusty when removed .
I hear some FORD employees enjoy setting them off behind the dealerships.

yes some may but i also  reminded the co workers  them the reason they are being replaced is they killed people when they exploded...... I will be inside .  Ford also had no disposal program for returning them .

unless the  numbers being transferred are in  pristine condition  the hardest thing is the inconsistency in 2 different  materiaial  the grain of the steel does not match /or the condition of the the 2 panels  that aged at different rates in different places .

2 of   tdf falcons were built at dearborn steel and tubing  then modified for road racing  at holman / they had studabaker front disc brakes .
