Quote from: tesgt350 on January 22, 2026, 03:45:39 PMHow early was JM's Shelby?  Did it have an S in the Ford VIN?  Did it have the scribed Z in the Shelby VIN? Who said the Car was actually "Totaled"?

Jimmies car probably did have the Z stamped on it

The Z stamped cars were generally built after April 27, 1967, and continued through the rest of the 1967 model year.

Probably a few exceptions with out the Z

But since this car has evaporated...we may never know

To be continued

Morrison's car was completed 3/20/67 but not originally shipped until 6/27/67.

Based on their asking prices for everything I agree, scam. I mean $39,900 for a 69 Z/28 RS?

Ask a Registrar / Re: 66 hood to cowl seal

No issues at all. Think I'll resist the temptation to re-flatten them, can see that going sideways in several scenarios...

Well, that solves a mystery I've been wondering about. My late March 66 had the same bent over support tabs. Figuring they "shouldn't" be like that I carefully pried them back enough to remove the screws then straightened out and reinstalled. Had never heard this was done at SAI, guess I need to decide now whether to bend them back or not.

Quote from: Boxerville's Manor on December 16, 2025, 10:17:59 PMFOUND!

Proud to report a success story.

I help run the lost and found page with Fred Ballard on the hipo mustang forum by keeping a database of vins people are looking for specifically, 65-67 hipo vins.  A gentleman reached out to me, provided a picture of a vin stamped 289 motor to add to my database.  It was a 6R09K vin so I contacted Howard Pardee (SAAC Registrar) who confirmed it belongs to a 1966 Shelby GT350.  Mr. Pardee put me in contact with the GT350 owner (Damon) and I was able to link up the two parties.

This is why I keep a database.  These wins are very rare but I'm a believer the more vins I record the higher the likelihood we can have more success stories like this.

Congratulations to the GT350 and hipo 289 owners tonight.

Merry Christmas!

Great story, thanks for your efforts!

I have the original owner's manual for 6F07K333719, car was purchased new from Marv Tonkin Ford in Portland, OR on 5/14/66. It is listed in the HiPo forum database mentioned above and on the VMF, so far no luck finding the current car owner.

Quote from: warwick on December 15, 2025, 05:34:14 PMBob Mannel also wrote an article specifically on 289 HiPo C4 Automatic in Fairlaner May/June 2007. It offers substantial detail. Bob is prob on this forum.

As an owner of an orig 66 hipo C4 I would say they are different-I would say shift points are above 5800 and they only stay in first if selected, otherwise they shift out of first very very fast.

Bob is a member here but hasn't posted for several years, a PM might work. He does post occasionally on the HiPo forum. If you join the Fairlane Club of America you have unlimited access to Fairlaner magazine back issues including the May/June 2007 issue mentioned above. Also, if you have the digital version of Bob's SBF book, Appendix 1(a) has details on the HiPo C4, the printed version doesn't have this.

Quote from: Bill Collins on November 08, 2025, 01:56:21 PMThe '66 GT350 used a similar cap from the Fairlane deluxe wheel, hence the C6OA engineering number. This cap is not debossed. The plastic center insert is changed for the Shelby application to a Cobra snake logo reading "GT350" rather than "Cobra".

+1. The 66 GT350, 66 Fairlane Deluxe Interior, and 66 Galaxie 7-litre all share the same center cap with a C6OA-3655-A casting number, only the emblems are different. Photo below shows the Fairlane and Galaxie versions...

The 65-66 GT350 export brace, welded reinforcement plate, and washer reinforced shock towers were all installed at San Jose. Yes, you can feel the original unevenly spaced bolt holes so I assume those were pre-drilled earlier in production?

Do have to admit, every time I use the engine cross brace to jack up the front, it makes me a little nervous to see the brace flex with the original T-pan just above it.
