Concours Talk / NOS C6DZ-10884-B Temp Sender
September 24, 2024, 01:33:26 PM
Came across this recently which has me a little confused. I thought the -B senders all have a red insulator while the white insulator was only seen on the -A sender? I have NOS Autolite and Motorcraft -B senders which both have red insulators. At first I thought this was just mis-boxed but it does have the proper 260 temp rating for a -B.

Is it possible the very early -B sender insulators were also white or could the red have completely faded away? Any suggestions for coloring, paint vs dye?

Thanks,
Dave

Parts For Sale / 66 GT350 Tachometer - SOLD
August 19, 2024, 05:47:35 PM
I have a nice used 66 OTC tach for sale. Was on my 66 when I bought it in 1987, installed in 1967 when the original tach failed. Was running when removed to install an OE tach 3 years ago although the needle was occasionally jumping around which I attribute to a failing coil at the time, but regardless I recommend having it rebuilt by Phil Severance (Phidon Restorations). No cup or bracket but unlike most you see for sale the wires are intact. I've seen examples of these typically later OTC tachs with March, April, and May 1966 stamped dates so assume it's very possible these could be assemblyline correct for very late 66's.

Asking $325 OBO which includes USA shipping and insurance. Please PM or email if interested.

Thanks,
Dave

Concours Talk / More Autolite Spark Plug Minutia...
August 18, 2024, 01:55:39 PM
Recently came across a couple BF-32 variants I had not seen before so thought I'd share my observations, and start a new thread to add to this discussion, https://www.saac.com/forum/index.php?topic=9326, but focus on plugs available in 1965 and later thru the end of Autolite versions. I assume these variations apply to all Autolite plugs, not just BF-32's. I've not seen any documentation describing these changes so the evolution proposed here is entirely my opinion based on what seems logical to me.

Variant 1: Typical star logo plug. Most noticeable feature is the long electrode measuring ~0.11" which is also seen in the earlier 3-rib plugs mentioned in the above thread.

Variant 2: Same as variant 1 except the electrode is much shorter, measuring ~0.07". All plugs going forward have this same shorter electrode.

Variant 3: Same as variant 2 except the star logo has disappeared and that area is now blank. I remember Randy Gillis, RIP, mentioned seeing these as early as very late 1966.

Variant 4: First Powertip variant. This is the only one like this I've personally seen. 'Autolite' and 'BF32' text appears the same as variants 1-3 except 'BF32' is moved to the opposite side and 'Powertip' is now added beneath 'Autolite'.

Variant 5: Most commonly seen Powertip variant. Larger font 'Autolite' text on one side, 'Powertip' and 'BF32' on the other.

Variant 6: Late Powertip plug produced shortly(?) before Autolite and Ford went their separate ways, box has both Autolite and Motorcraft wording. Different/smaller font 'Autolite' text, slightly smaller 'Powertip' and 'BF32' text. This is the last Autolite version I'm aware of. After that the BF-32 was Motorcraft and the equivalent Autolite became #34.

There are other differences as well such as, the knurling pattern in variants 1-4 is much more pronounced than 5 and 6, also 'Made in USA' text placement to name a couple.

Up For Auction / Interesting T10M-1 Main Case
August 09, 2024, 01:04:32 PM
Obviously not an assemblyline 65-early 66 GT350 main case, unique casting and machining features, no stamped assembly date, atypical GT350 gear ratios stamped on top front rail. Anyone know what this is?

Concours Talk / 67 GT350 Air Filter?
May 05, 2024, 06:06:56 PM
Curious which B7SZ-9601-A air filter element was used in the 67 289 HiPo and GT350....FoMoCo, or Autolite (FA-41)?

Asking because the FoMoCo version has an OD of 13.69", the later Autolite FA-41 version marked C7SF-9601-A has a slightly smaller OD at 13.30" which would have looked a little odd in the HiPo air cleaner assembly.  This Autolite (and later Motorcraft) filter was also used on other performance cars like 69-70 Boss 302, 68-70 428CJ, etc.

From my observations all the repops of this filter have the larger ~13.69" OD, so technically the smaller OD filter correct for the CJ and Boss 302 is not reproduced, is that right?

Thanks,
Dave

Not mine, but thought this C8AE housing might be useful to someone for making a clone since it has a 67 date code and the side port is not drilled...

1965 GT350/R-Model / Owner of 65 GT350 wrecked when new?
September 29, 2023, 07:40:03 PM
While searching for something different on FB came across this. Posting in case anyone knew the guy or car...

"Does anyone when remember Braxton Hazelrigs wrapped his new 1965 Shelby Mustang GT350 around a telephone pole on N. Decatur Road? He was going to Tech and would occasionally stop by North Decatur Pharmacy for a burger and Coke. Nice guy."

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Holley 715 Help
September 01, 2023, 05:07:02 PM
The 3259 on my 66 started running rich in about the last 500-1000 miles or so. I pulled the carb and the secondary throttle plate bottoms and lower bores are covered in black, mostly dry soot on the plates. Primary plates and bores are clean and look great. I don't see anything obvious...float levels are good, no sticking or leaking floats, needles/seats look good, etc. The plugs are more fouled towards the front of the engine.

Could this be something as simple as a clogged air bleed? Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Dave
