Thank you Pete

I remember I was looking under the car after purchase and one of the washers was missing from the steering box bolt

The one with the flat edge

I looked in the triangular brace below the box and it was sitting in the dust on the ledge

I installed it

A very unmessed with car

I now have had well in excess of 300 Mustangs and a few Shelbys, My 66GT350 went back to America and is with Paul Fix. It allowed me to build my business building which was great and Paul wanted a Blue one.

I get so many stories with these cars and its lovely to try and add a bit to the one I sold

It did have a Calif Plate SPCLKR when I bought it which was sold a few years after the sale. I do wish I held it and got it the current owner of the car now.

I am so relieved to hear the driver and his wife are okay, These photos were all over the net here in the UK  and I never heard what happened.

So glad to hear you are doing okay

Two stories, nothing to do with the car in the post, just weird VIN stories

I sell Mustangs here in the UK

Guy came to my shop and was desperate to purchase a car that I was working on. I mean he wanted it NOW. I was about a month out and he just could not wait. On the way home he called me to thank me for my time and said he had put a deposit on a GT500 at a dealer "up north" I said thats great, glad he found a car. I said did you check the Shelby registry? Did you do any due dilligence? He said the car had "all the paperwork" I said great, I know who has the Jim Morrison shelby title but that doesn't mean the car exists. A few months later and the guy called me and thanked me for saving him tens of thousands of pounds. The VIN under the shelby Tag was for a 68 coupe.

So thats one. Here is the other (and sadly I have probably a dozen stories.

A good friend of mine got a 69 or 70 Aqua Shelby convertible in for sale. Man I was smitten!!!! stunning, breathtakingly awesome car. Gulfstream aqua from memory, superb shape.I was talking to my dad about buying it, My good friend didn't like the VIN area very much, So he started sanding, Low and behold the VIN was welded in. Turns out the car was a reshell after the car got hit in front of the owners house. The car was sold, A letter stating the car was a reshell was signed by the new owner to protect the reputation of my friend. I wonder if that car is still being touted as a reshell

Hello Folks

Peter the American living in the UK

So approx circa 2002, I purchased an Acapulco blue 1968 GT500 KR a few months after Carlisle, It was for sale at Carlisle by a Ford dealer, the salesman said if the car sells the owner is buying a Navigotor from him.

Car was $25,500. I went over and under the car with Peter Geisler on the phone in Florida at the Carlisle show to determine what we had. Car looked stunning, I believe it was a PA car or found in PA and had one repaint. Miles were lowish and the body was superb with no accident or rust history

I didn't buy the car at the show and it haunted me. I finally called the seller and bought the car at $25,500

I took it to a few shows and used to call it the thousand dollar car as it would always do something that cost me a thusand bucks when I took it out. Breakdowns.

A few details on the car. I (don't kill me!!!) used POR 15 inside the rear quarters and distinctly remember somehow getting it very far into the front of the quarters with a brush and my young body was able to contort to do so.

I also bought, at carlisle, ar restored and correct carb for the car for under $500, it may have been $450 when installing it, one of the stud mounts was stripped and I used two part epoxy to set it in place. Never was an issue

I still have the scars from replacing the top rad hose that was insanely tight to fit.

I put a ton of money into the car over the months and when it broke down on me again in florida I decided to sell the car.

Orlando Mustang brought the car to the Charlotte auto fair and I spent days speaking toa zillion people about the car and someone finally came up with $48k to buy it.

Had a lovely batch of paperwork and a few bits that had been removed and saved

I am pretty sure he was a dealer and later resold the car.

I am sorry, I can't remember the cars number

I did send info into the Registry and remember it was a rambling story so I will cringe when I see what I reported if they received and posted it to the books.

Acapulco blue. Sold in Sepulveda Calif, 428 CJ/Auto, Very very solid car, Had ten spokes installed.

At one of the first shows I attended in Florida where I was living I met a guy named Mark, had a Boss 302, may have been yellow and a Black Gt350 with a Paxson. I believe he passed or at least sold the Gt350 as saw someone had bought it a few years bakc.

Photos on my drive in Windermere Florida

In some ways I miss it and in others I don't.

I am now selling classic Mustangs in England so I never learned my less. Hundreds imported and sold

Thanks for reading

Sorry for any memory blips, this was quite some time ago

Just found this

I am saddened

Absolute diamond of a person

I would fly to America to see my dad and mail my tachometers to him. He would endeavour to send them back to me before I flew back to England

3 Tachs and a Dodge Challenger dash were expertly restored to like new condition by Phil

RIP to a wonderful and talented human

I cut off the broken part. File the little post on the base a bit smaller and epoxy the mast back on

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Re: door data plates

Quote from: Bob Gaines on July 12, 2024, 11:59:59 AMOn rare occasions the removed data plate was found under the rear carpet on cars where the rear interior quarters and fold down were taken out for the conversion .

Imagine finding that plate!!! oh man, awesome bit of history

Stunning car, I had a sapphire blue example which went back to the states. Just a word on magnums, Treat them like fine china. I purchase and install a TON of wheels for my business. The "new" magnums rust if you look at them crooked. Go out in the rain, leave them wet, next day rust. And when they do it, it is brutal. the top coat of chrome is comically thin. Not like the old days where you just clean it off. it goes right through.

Well I have now driven the car. Its an ANIMAL! its like pressing fast forward when you hit the throttle. I've had over 250 Mustangs and this one honestly scares me. The Borgeson works great. Thanks for all the replies which helped me move forward. I now have an early 390 balancer to wear on a gold chain like a Mustang Rapper.

An update for everyone

So the new 68 and later balancer and pulley went on fine.

A few nail biting days and the Borgeson is completely on and fits even with a 428 with headers.

I get the car back in a few days. Excited to try it now that the issue with the TKX install is sorted as well.

Cheers. Peter

You got that right

I went from clueless to knowing just enough to be dangerous in all this

Pulling the oil pan would have been informative but I'm already into the car so deep that I didn't want to open another can of worms

Thanks for your assist

I am looking forward to my first proper drive

Any new developments will be reported here.

A large amount of material was removed off that hatchet from all appearances

Further down the rabbit hole

Car hasn't been started since these parts were installed
