Rumor has it that CSX3009 will soon be owned by The Miller Foundation and join many of their other cars at the Shelby American Collection.

Very sad to read about Bill's passing.  He was a really great person and a true Shelby enthusiast.  I enjoyed his company and racing against him.  It was a pleasure to have known him and had his friendship for nearly 40 years.  Godspeed to you Bill.

[Jim Benavedes]

Interesting to note is that the tenspoke wheels Shelby had made up for the Beverly hills continuation 66 GT350 convertibles had the blackout on those wheels . Apparently that was the go to look .

CS gave me a set of those (seconds - the back side didn't clean up completely in the machining process) for 843. They were painted (powder coated?) and then finish machined leaving the raised aluminum spokes bare. Richard probably still has them and can maybe dig them out for a photo???

I do not know anything about Jim Benavedes background.  You do not see his name mentioned very often when reading about SAI.  Fred Goodell was sent out to SAI by Ford to try and get the production line running better.

The two high angle engine bay photos were taken by Bob D'Olivo for Sports Car Graphic on 12/13/66 for their March '67 issue.  So, the car was a month and four days old at the time.  Before Sports Car Graphic had the car, it had been road tested by Popular Hot Rodding and the article and photo with the air cleaner removed appears in their February '67 issue.
