CSX 2000 Series / Re: Mk2 Cobra engine
July 14, 2024, 06:22:16 PM
Quote from: Cobramax on July 14, 2024, 02:11:27 PMThe engine number was stamped on the Shelby serial number tag on at least some 289 Cobras.
Typically, the Cobra footbox tag began at the CSX22xx mark. (The beginning of the third contact of cars.) AC Cars Ltd stamped the VIN number on the tag and Shelby American stamped the engine number on the tag. Some Cobras below CSX22xx had footbox tags added at a later time. Perhaps some stated required an easily found and displayed VIN.

289 Cobras above CSX2201 used a Stewart Warner two-piece tach. Besides the tach head in the dash there was a sending unit mounted on the firewall. Many over the years have failed. Usually it is the sending unit that fails not the tach head. Until recently the only option was finding a one piece tach unit that was similar to the original tach. Some were close BUT the tach face is different, the chrome bezel does not match the speedometer bezel and the needle may differ.

If you have an original non-working tach and sending unit, Mark Olson at Accutach Co. in San Jose can help www.accutach.com molson@accutach.com  Mark can determine if your tach is good and if the sender can be repaired. In the event the sender can not be repaired, he can use a TachMatch that replaces the sender and calibrates your tach.

If you only have the original tach BrianLaine@aol.com in Arlington, WA can verify if your tach is working and provide a TachMatch that replaces the missing sender.

You can contact me if you wish additional information.

Pictured below are the tach & sender, the TachMatch and the internals of the TachMatch mounted inside the original sender.

Quote from: tesgt350 on June 06, 2024, 02:55:18 PMWouldn't the HiPo's also have a VIN Stamped on it?  Did SAI Stamp any Vin's on them?

Cobras did not have VIN stamped engines.

Quote from: Bob Gaines on June 05, 2024, 04:52:46 PMTechnically it is not street legal .Of course your need a license plate. Uncover the headlights ,add some type of muffler to the exhaust and as long as the turn signal and brake lights work you are good to go to the cruise night without fear of a ticket .

And windshield wipers, and tires for highway use.

The emblem on the left is the C3RA-14225-A used on 427 Cobras. The emblem onthe right is the S1CS-19523-C used on 289 Cobras from CSX2133 to CSX2589.

I attended Bondurant's 4 day school in 1994. Who knows, I may have driven that car. ;) These cars took a beating! Sometimes multiple students would share one car for a session on one of the accident avoidance exercises because it was so hard on the cars. It consisted of deliberately spinning the car while locking up the brakes.  A number of students did some off roading.
Of course not you. ::)  ;D

Parts For Sale / Re: American Safety Seat Belt

For clarity, are there a pair of belts for sale or just one set?

Notice most all of the vertical bars have had material removed to allow more air flow.

Just another "continuation" Shelby License product among a long list of others.  Nothing new about this type of development anymore. Nicely detailed and expensive product.  Now we have the CSX2800 series of five in the unavailable to the public  Shelby Registry. 8)

Each Dragonsnake costs $750,000 before options. These Dragon Snakes are authenticated by Shelby and built under their guidance with CSX # 's reserved in the SAAC registry for each build.
Maybe a Shelby American 'Registry', not in SAAC Registry.

With all the talk of fires and disappearing vehicles I was recommended by a friend to put one of these on my car.  He is a just recently retired airline pilot having flown big birds so I trust his judgment having survived 30,000 hours of time up in the skies.  I will let y'all know how the install goes.

I would recommend the knife-blade style instead. The screw type can have a corrosion issue and may not make good contact.    https://www.amazon.com/Battery-Disconnect-Isolator-Negative-Vertical/dp/B07YTWJQF2/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=34LGZDUDR06RO&keywords=battery+cutoff&qid=1702321955&sprefix=battery+cutoff%2Caps%2C136&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1

It doesn't appear the ad ones match the ones SA used/sold. The period SA photos clearly show the spline adapters used visible lug nuts to hold them to the wheel.
Only some of them had the lug nuts. Usually used on the rear of the factory drag cars. Customer drag cars nomally did not get the lug nut version. The lug nuts were added to help with the torque of the drag cars. The yellow car is CSX2427 (Customer car) https://bringatrailer.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/IMG-1590-17162-scaled.jpg?fit=2048%2C1536 The blue car is CSX2357, A factory drag car. https://allcarcentral.com/Shelby/Shelby_Cobra_Dragonsnake_289_sn-CSX2357_1964_Cobra_Experience_Museum_MWP0851.jpg
