CSX1000, 4000, 7000, 8000 / Re: CSX4000 history
June 18, 2026, 07:07:27 PM
Quote from: scg36 on June 18, 2026, 06:29:22 PMHello SAAC Forum,
I have been a SAAC member for 22 years.

I just purchased CSX4147, and could use some help on its history. It comes with the original statement of origin dated 1999. It also comes with the paperwork from NY where the engine was installed. Other than the gentleman I purchased from, and knowing it was in NY prior to his ownership, I was hoping to see if there
is any additional history.

I went to the cobra registry, and that did not have anything.

Appreciate the help.
Thanks, Sean

Originally delivered to Billy Andrews at HRE as what must only be described as a "pallet" car (my words, not located within the actual registry, but given the following information, once can surmise, I'll leave it at that) per the 4th edition of the World Registry of Cobras and GT40's (publishing date unknown), with the following deleted items noted:wheels, sidepipes, vinyl upholstery, and headers. Also uncertain if the fiberglass body was painted or not at that time.

This is the car with the 351W "stroked" to "427cid"
Appears to have bought and sold a number of times:
Discussion from the new in 2024 owner getting ready to sell his ERA:
http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/all-cobra-talk/148011-getting-ready-list-era-575-427-sc.html
Where he bought it on BAT:

Sold on Cobra country
https://www.cobracountry.com/cars-for-sale/shelby-427sc-cobra-csx4147-szambel/
Then sold to you on BAT just recently:
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1965-shelby-cobra-csx4000-12/

That is all I see in my records, club cobra is down, as it has been on and off (mostly off) for the last few years, so I cannot dig into any other posts there at this time.

Hope you find this helpful

Quote from: Cobrask8 on June 17, 2026, 10:00:40 PMYes, drive it in!

There is just no room for truck/trailers, or any spectator parking. Only the marque cars, we'll be happy to have you. In fact, I'll probably be parking you. Run me over!

(I just had to correct Bill, and make sure the point was clear about no trailer or spectator parking)

I should have been clearer in my response, I apologize for the minor confusion.  8)

As for running over Dan, SAAC stopped offering points on such things after an unfortunate foot repair dating back to SAAC at the old Playboy club in NJ  ;D

CSX 2000 Series / Re: Hood escutcheon plate inquiry

Quote from: mickmate on June 14, 2026, 04:49:00 PMThey are commonly referred to as toilet seat lid type, I wonder why. Yes used on early cars until there were incidents like Asnake refers to. Then there were some guys taking them racing that needed quick hood access hence the teardrop handles. Then Wilmot Breeden did a suitable handle used with a circular base plate that went the rest of Cobra and 427 production. These handles were a locking type with a lock barrel available but had blanking plugs in place of the locks in Cobras and 427's.

Thanks Nick, if you need a set as shown above, they are sitting with my spares.

Quote from: shelbymann1970 on May 19, 2026, 11:11:28 PMor an auction house( not Bat) bid a car up to the reserve.

This is no secret, it's been openly "buried" within the terms and conditions of every auction contract dating back to far before I ever got involved in such things. All you needed to do is actually read the T's and C's when you initially signed up as a bidder or seller. Same goes for the auction house not being responsible for the lack of a buyers due diligence. I've been told some prolific sellers actually list their cars at such auctions because of this.

MrBill got a light tan, and a shower along the way, no trailer, no massage therapist, no Jacuzzi, no alcohol until the car was safely back in the garage. I did happen to test the brakes on the way down, thankfully passed with flying colors. I addition, I did have a nice mid 30's-early 40's or so women show her appreciation for the car with it's top down, in a similar, but opposite direction at 80mph. Howard Pardee would be proud  ;D

Thanks again for putting this together.

Without a doubt.

Quote from: tesgt350 on May 01, 2026, 11:16:52 AMIt is an 89 and #154.  It is priced at $39,900.  When I say Short Term, I mean 2 to 5 Years.

Don't look at it from a ROI mindset, instead look at it as a shiny toy that you either want to own, or need to own. Let the next generation worry about it future sale price when you are gone from this plane of existence. Quite frankly, to do otherwise ruins the experience of ownership right from the start.

Is this after the general car show, and if so, will it be on site, or off site from the same?

Quote from: Bob Gaines on April 23, 2026, 09:40:54 PMIf your booster is nice on the outside (no rust pits) you may want to confirm that they are rebuilding what you send and not an exchange where you may get one of lesser quality back.

Thanks, I'll be exceptionally vigilant if the master cylinder does not fix the issue and I need to send the booster out for restoration.
