Quote from: 98SVT - was 06GT on May 01, 2026, 04:50:15 PMIt's not an investment. But you'll lose less money than buying a current Mustang GT convert.
9,000 is low miles but once you hit that 10,000 mile mark buyers will no longer look at it the same way. There seems to be a 4 digit mileage good - 5 digit bad mentality.
In reality it is an investment for the dealer. He probably gave sub 30 for the car and is looking for a 10 grand payday. With another 5 years of driving on it I'll wager it's in the $25-30 range at a private sale.

I Don't know the market on these cars.  I know a guy who sold this car with 11k miles . Why so much? https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1993-ford-saleen-mustang-sc-convertible-2/

Quote from: 69 GT350 Vert on April 30, 2026, 09:28:26 AMThere are no $54K 1968 GT500s unless they are totaled.  Maybe in 1995 there were.
uh mine wasnt totaled but apart and needing a resto when I bought it 2 years ago. Some may call it "totaled".

Jeff the car is 0361 so 9F02M480361. The reason they might have survived is that at one time the whole car  was painted in a metal flake paint. Dennis said his car was a glitter fest.

1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / The rod end markings
April 18, 2026, 05:20:29 PM
A friend of mine restoring a 69 GT350 sent me pics of what he believes are his original tie rods. Early Jan 8 build. Yellow and green markings on tie rods. Were these marked in 69? I know in 1970 but many years ago was told not done in 69. What is the consensus? Thanks

Quote from: Survivor on April 16, 2026, 12:36:32 PMWell, I didn't mention it but dropping prices is a concern.  Or, maybe this was just a one off... which is what I'm inclined to think.  Either way, good timing for the buyer.
not me. See this 68 6 cyl convert? Seems like a great start for a clone and  cheap at 12k today. I was told by a friend who looked at the offering for Mecum spring and said it was pretty weak.

Quote from: Survivor on April 16, 2026, 09:30:50 AMAgreed on the price.  Almost too good a buy.  Perhaps the seller had to get off it?  Personally I believe he left some $ on the table.  I was thinking more like a 110/115k reserve and then see where it goes-esp. given the color combo etc.  Easy for me to say from the sidelines...
had a friend who I helped buy a similar car. He paid 120k then sorted the fresh resto out. Then he died quickly from cancer but helped him sell it before he did. I believe he got between 115-120k for it. GO white car. This color isn't as popular so I'd expect lower but not 102k. Who knows? Is it what's going on in the world dropping prices on many classics? Time will tell.

Appeals / Re: Welding cast iron manifolds
April 12, 2026, 10:23:59 AM
I've had manifolds welded before from my tool and die welder at work. I forgot the type of rod he used and wasn't there for the process but iirc on welding cast iron it has to be heated up. I welded up a crack in my PI manifold for my 68 Shelby GT500  and the area welded is covered up by the factory heat shield which SA left on the engine and never removed. I was then lucky to get a mint set of date codes correct manifolds off of Jim Wicks. If you want pics of the repair on mine or more detailed info on how it was done I can get that for you Pete. Oh, yeah, I carbide burred out the crack as per my welders instructions with a die grinder.

Quote from: Bob Gaines on April 08, 2026, 07:19:01 PMI am guessing the front coils were replaced with Eaton brand. I have had four pairs of Eaton brand coils and they all needed a half a coil cut out even after the Eaton owner swears that they are made to factory specs. Others that I talked to have had the same problem. Same with their rear leaf's. FYI S9MS Shelby leaf's are different lengths compared to a regular Mustang. All except the top leaf that the front eye rubber bushing is pressed into. And no, the switching of just the bottom leaf doesn't get it on the typical 69/70 Shelby unlike other year leaf springs where you can switch the bottom leaf and no one will be the wiser.  The bottom leaf typically sets parallel with the ground instead of contoured like a regular Mustang. A sagging set of original rear leaf's can be re arched to save the unique original set. If you press in a new front eye you will save about 300.00 over a new repro pair besides saving the Shelby unique originals in the process.
[/quoted]I bought rear leafs from Eaton springs 26 years ago for my very. The height was spot on but had rub issues with my 245s when hitting bumps on the fabulous Mi roads.  so I brought them to their facility in Detroit and while I waited they re-arced them and gave me another 3/8s. My fronts are my originals. I'll  put my original rears back on the car someday.

Interesting as it's in a remanufactured box so it's a new one in a reman box. Yes, a little glazing putty will solve that. I'm glad it has the tag on it like my original. Thanks.
