Is there really a thing as "early production" 68 Shelby Lucas lamps? Since Marchals were used into at least Feb 1968? Marchals were installed  at AO Smith on my car when converted in Feb.1968

I heard the whole story right out of Kevin's mouth many years ago. With his stature in the car community I highly doubt this would be anything but legit.

Bob, to be clear when you say you use it over multiple finishes are referring to the red layout dye or the opaque staining color.thanks as always. Gary

Concours Talk / 15x5.5 11-66 wheels
January 10, 2026, 04:06:53 PM
So I got a bunch of steelies and going through them today I found some observations on my 15x6 wheels as far as offsets go. When I bought my 68 that was sitting since 1973 it had SNOW tires on the back. After getting the tires off of them and having a blaster blast them(a friend did all this for me) I found those 2 with snow tires to be 11-66 KH wheels. 15x5.5. Can someone tell me the applications these wheels were used on? My other 15x6 non Shelby wheels are 1969, 1970 and 1971 with the center hole being larger and about a 1/4" negative offset compared to my 68 Shelby wheels. Thanks. Gary

Quote from: shelbymann1970 on January 10, 2026, 01:38:36 PMI've seen discussions before but not sure if here or other places but a search here doesn't come up with answers. I got the "see through" red Dykem lay out die. Now its been discussed about the opaque red die like I see on so many fasteners that AMK sells. So  is the first pic the die layout ink? Then the next 3 pics an opaque stain? I thought I read where the opaque was used on  certain finishes because of the plating?  The link is to a Dykem opaque staining color. Thanks in advance. Gary

The finish look can be different depending on the dye uderlaying finish . A example is the dye over a zinc phosphate nut looks different (dull) compared to one with zinc silver . zinc dichromate gold has a different yet look.
Thanks Bob. I remember that, So are you using the same dye over every fastener that gets the red safely coating? I have used only the red layout dye but do you use the opaque on finishes that the "clear red dye" won't take to"? I  think phospate was an issue? Thanks, Gary

S I just set the end caps back on the convertible they cane off of. I find no difference of them being on either car so my opinion they are the same .

Quote from: CompRed70scj on January 02, 2026, 08:08:01 AMI just installed the Repops versions, and am not impressed. Their kit is for a 1970, so it mounts differently. It will flop around unless I drill a hole in my doors to screw in the ends.
I bought the 68s and 69s sets off of Brant last year. Here was his post here. He may still have the pass side available. https://www.saac.com/forum/index.php?topic=30657.msg219096#msg219096

Beltlines are DIFFERENT on a FB compared to a convertible.
#10
Yes, I'm not saying they are all the same just that it appears the contours of the red pair off my friend's convertible match the contour on my 68 GT500 FB and the inside area is the same length as see by the tape measure. My next step is to put them back on his convertible. He said they fit fine but I will double check this weekend. Just like the side scoops for 68s there are probably variations like Bill Collins showed. Gary

Comparison of the 2 right sides
#12
So here are the convertible ones off my friends March 68 vert mounted in my FB. Fit like a glove and the pass side is identical to my FB one. So I will double check these pieces that came off my friends vert that they indeed fit  his vert as I never seen them on the car before he took them off. .should have done that when I picked them up last night.

Well I got a pair of original ones off my friends disassembled 68 GT350 vert and hopefully tomorrow morning I'll be "fitting" them on my FB to see and will compare my pass FB to my friends pass vert ones. Personally I hope they are the same as it opens up more options to finding a DS end cap for my 68 FB. BTW my friend's car was built first week of March so I assume AO Smith a short time after and the end caps still had the silicone on the edges so am assuming original to the car as it is a red car and no other hint of another color. .

Well I'll take my friend's convertible end caps for his 68 and see how they fit on my 68 FB or do a back to back comparison from my perfect pass side to his DS. I don't know but I know belt line reproduction sheet metal for 68  coupe/vert is sold as diff from FB by aftermarket companies and one well known guy told me there is slight differences on the contour of a Vert to a FB and he is wealth of knowledge. NPD sells one and says modify for convertible or GT/CS(coupe). So I will test fit my friend's vert end caps on my FB when I can get them so it will be a few days at least. NPD says slight modification. So I don't know where they got that from if not true? Their FB version fits fine on my 68 but prefer to use an original if I can find one in time.

Wanted to Buy / Re: 1968-70 SB convertible motor mounts
December 29, 2025, 11:28:18 AM
Quote from: Special Ed on December 29, 2025, 08:31:08 AMJust make sure u have the correct vert frame brackets first as back years ago we did lots correcting on an older 70 gt 350 vert only to find out the rubber and frame brackets were wrong. So on the 69-70 gt 350 verts they use the big block frame brackets and different engine rubber mounts than the 69-70 gt 350 fastbacks. The gt 500 verts also take a different rubber mount the c7za-k red color code than the fastbacks. The c7za-k rubber mount has a hollow hole in the center and the fastbacks dont.
here are some pics of what we are looking for. I was lucky to buy an NOS set off of Fred Ballard many years ago for my 70 Convertible.
