On a whim, based on a post on the
forum by Brian Glover, I emailed the
guy in charge of the inside displays at
the Charlotte AutoFair and the next
day (August 5th) it was down to Char-
lotte for a nice display in Shelbyville
at the AutoFair. It was hot with high
humidity with a nice bunch of Shelbys.
We even stopped by the soon-to-be-
opened Mustang Owners Museum. A
lot of the display stuff was down in
Myrtle Beach and the building is
rather small, but the actual museum
looks to be a pretty good size. I hope it
does well.
I went to the NHRA race in Read-
ing, Pennsylvania and was supposed
to go the next day (Sept 16th) to the
SAAC Lehigh Valley Meet, but I was
just too worn out to get up at 5:00 a.m.
to make the four-plus hour drive and
repeat it coming home that evening.
It’s a great show with great people and
even a greater cause (Autism Speaks)
but I guess I’m not as young as I used
to be. I’m planning to make it in 2019.
On October 1st we took a ride up
to the AACA Museum in Hershey,
Pennsylvania. It was a 300+ mile “test
drive” for the upcoming GT350 Tour.
The next Monday is was a trailer
ride up to Lake George for the GT350
Tour. Having never been on one of
these tours before I was not sure what
to expect. The only thing I can say is it
delivered one of the greatest experi-
ences in the past twenty years. To
drive around with 21 other GT350s all
over upstate New York and Vermont,
seeing things that as an individual we
could never put together. It was 700 +
miles of great driving and of course it
rained. If invited back I will sign up
immediately. The tour itself could
make a great article for
The Shelby
American
and I’m hoping someone
will write it up with photos.
The next weekend was the
Rockville Car show, a collection of clas-
sic and sports cars 1993 or older. It’s a
great show with a live band, lots of
food and field full of car nuts. Of
course we had several Shelbys there
but could have used more.
