There were a few minor shows and
cruises to shake the cobwebs out of the
carburetor over the next few months
until the Cruising Ocean City Show in
May. Of course we had to cancel as the
weather report was for rain, rain and
more rain. The next weekend was the
Cruising Southern Maryland Veterans
Day, a 100+ mile cruise through
Southern Maryland that winds up at
the Veterans Home in Charlotte Hall.
The vets get to pick the Best in Show
and it becomes the poster car for the
following year. It’s great to see some of
the ladies and gentleman who have
given a lot to this country being out-
side and enjoying the show.
The next Saturday was the annual
ride up to Ford Carlisle, a great car
show for Ford enthusiasts, but sadly
there weren’t too many early Shel-
bys – only about six or so cars. One
was reported to be a clone/tribute car
but its hood was never open.
Two weeks later we were sup-
posed to go to Snakes on the Mountain
in Pennsylvania but I was reminded
that it was our anniversary weekend
and the wife made other plans. So it
was just a local cruise-in on Friday
Night and a missed opportunity to
drive up to Pennsylvania.
On July 4th we got to participate
in the Washington DC National 4th of
July Parade. It’s a lot of hurry up and
wait. The people running it are all vol-
unteers and they are great to work
with. It’s a slow 17-block ride in hun-
dred-degree heat down Constitution
Avenue, from about 7th Street to past
the Vietnam Memorial. Then you have
to try and find your way out of DC
with all of its road blockages and de-
tours – a crazy end to a great day. Lots
of tourists looked at the car. A photo of
the car was taken and will be used to
show prospective sponsors of the Mus-
tang Club of America Grand National
Show in Fredericksburg, Virginia next
Labor Day Weekend.
We took in a few local cruise-ins
and shows over the next few weeks
just to enjoy the weather but also
spent some time dodging rain drops.
We like to go to shows that have a
charity attached to them and went to
one for SIDS (Sudden Infant Death
Syndrome) and while it was small, it
had a couple of really neat cars, one
being an army vehicle where the
owner was giving away P38s (army C-
ration can openers).
On the 9th of July it was drive to
Pittsburgh to the Pittsburgh Vintage
Grand Prix Walnut Street Invitational
