Looking for any pictures where the cloth wrapping terminates on the taillight harness. I sent my harness to Rhode Island wiring but have noticed on this sight they may not have the correct cloth wrapping. Any help would be appreciated.

They don't stock the correct color combination of threads for the weave. I don't think it is asked for enough for them to keep it set up. I know of others that had to buy the correct combination of threads from them (I think )needed to make the weave look like factory . The generic black thread used by many repro harness makers is just plain wrong and is a deduction in concours if noticed by a informed judge.

So is the deduction the same if there is no wrap at all? I have pieces that look just plain awful and really don't want to leave it on the harness. Do I completely remove it and tape the harness for now?

This has always been a problem and harneses unlimited PA only does black and roade island wiring sent my 5 wiring harneses back last week unfinished and they called me saying they are shut down and a new guy is taking over the business and he is calling me in november when they are back in business. There is a shop in LA area also doing harneses. I sent mine to a guy in virgina who has the machines ford used and he is going to do 1 of mine and send it back to me to inspect first before he does the other 4 so stay tuned we will see how he does and i always leave a little threads on the front end of wire so they can see the original type of threadings and color.

Would expect the deduction would be less since its a color thread within the woven pattern so there should be create from what is there and correct verses not having anything.  IMO need to have, if possible within the amount of paints available in the section and the partial points rather than taking a full point possibly, room to reward the car that has more correct than the car missing all of it. Unless the wrap is completely wrong or has been replaced by a completely different style of wrap.

The wrong color is just one aspect of the covering. Condition and type covering is another. A black covering that the repro companies use can be modified to look more like original . You just have to think outside the box. It may not be perfect however that faux finish look can be made to look good enough to get a pass in DIV II or MCA Trailered concours without deduction just like other faux finishes are acceptable without deduction as long as executed well.

Smalls bought out road island wiring and moved with some employees and the equipment and is back up and running and he called me last week and he didnt have a website up yet so pete sent his out and a quick turn around time and if sending 69 shelby tell them 69 cougar as they dont know the difference and the unique 69 shelby harness is a separate part anyway.  Smalls auto wiring  53 railroad st. wakefield RI. 02879   401 789 1955.    their prices are very reasonable $6.50 a foot.

Just an FYI, I sent on Monday the 16th and was returned on Monday the 23rd. I had the harness marked where to start and where to end. They will also ask if there is any wiring (sailed panel light) that needs to exit from the harness at any point and to mark the exit spot. Thanks to Ed for getting me in touch with them.
