Auction Description:
This 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350H was invoiced to the Hertz corporation in January 1966, having been specified with special Hertz wheels, a radio, and power-assisted brakes. According to the seller, the car is one of the documented Holley Le Mans-carbureted automatics from the factory, and they acquired it in 1999. A restoration was completed by John Brown of Thoroughbred Restorations in Piedmont, Oklahoma in 2023, and the car has since won three Division 2 Concours Gold awards at the 2023 Indiana SAAC Fall Classic, the 2024 MCA 60th Anniversary of the Mustang, and SAAC-49 in 2024. This GT350H is now offered with a copy of the original invoice, a copy of the SAAC registry entry, a National Shelby Registry certificate, the owner's manual, and a Texas title in the seller's name.

Approximately 1,000 GT350H examples were produced as part of a partnership between Ford and the Hertz car rental company. This example is finished in Raven Black (A), and exterior details include GT350 side stripes, a driver-side mirror, and chrome bumpers.

A restoration was completed by John Brown of Thoroughbred Restorations in Piedmont, Oklahoma in 2023, with input provided by Ben Wagner, Brian Littlefield, Jim Wicks, and Bob Gaines.

Chrome-plated 14″ Magnum wheels are mounted with Goodyear Blue Streak tires. GT350s were factory-equipped with Kelsey-Hayes front disc brakes as well as larger rear drums than standard Mustangs, and additional Shelby modifications included revised front suspension geometry, quick-steer idler and pitman arms, stiffer springs, a larger front sway bar, and rear traction bars. This example was specified with a brake booster.

The cabin features low-back bucket seats trimmed in Bback vinyl, and interior appointments include rear seat lap belts and an optional AM radio.

The simulated wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer flanked by an ammeter as well as fuel-level, oil-pressure, and coolant-temperature gauges. The five-digit odometer shows under 89k miles, fewer than 50 miles of which were added under current ownership.

A Cobra-branded 9k-rpm tachometer is center-mounted atop the dash.

The seller notes the 289ci HiPo V8 is a replacement, and that the car was delivered from the factory with a Holley Le Mans carburetor. A Monte Carlo bar spans the bay.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission.

SAAC and invoice copies regarding SFM6S711 are detailed in the gallery.

The Texas title carries a VIN Certification Waived remark.

Unless I was in dire financial straits, I'd rather have the car than the money.

Small block eight so live she feels
There she's parked beside the curb
Engine revving to disturb
She's the princess from his past
Red paint gold stripes damned she's fast"

If it would have sold, would it be a record price for a 66 Shelby H with it's racing history, and pre-restoration condition? There is information on this Shelby in the National SAAC Shelby American magazine Vol. 5 #2 (for sale AD in 1980). Jack Shroll (1999 CA.) and new owner, Butch, talked about it on the SAAC Forum, October of 2012 (restoration started). I wrote down what was said.

As the ad mentions this car had been restored and shown so not in "pre-restoration" condition.  Record for a similar recent SAAC Div II winner public sale (6S1618) was almost double. Of course time, place and venue can play a big part on what someone might get on any particular day.

I dont know I felt like people were overly critical, but I dont the whole story.

All of a sudden BaT buyers are concerned with reproduction parts? There are KRs routinely being sold with $10,000 worth of missing parts or replacement tags and it doesnt seem like theres even a mention
