Rear valance hung and then body color applied,

 Were the screws holding the valance then painted body color also? I thought it was "hung loosely " didn't know at that point what that entailed?

Usually it means only some of the screws were painted.

At Dearborn all of the screws used to attach the valance to the body on Mustangs have been found painted so those attachment screws were installed before the cars exterior color was applied. Later the lower edge was pulled into the body to secure the valance to the car. This has been found also on Metuchen built cars but not, for Shelby's, earlier cars built at San Jose.

Of course the rear valances on 69 Shelby's those rear valances were removed, modified and reinstalled so that the exhaust could be accessed and modified.

+1 Sorry I was not clearer above. Looks like they reused them and in the process some were likely dropped or lost so they used new ones for those attachment points.

i have a similar question as to what are the type-and finish of the screws that attach the rear fiberglass valence to the chassis.  I know that they are sheet metal type screws but not sure at to head and finish.

Given the questions you have recently asked you and for others who may be reading there is a huge benefit from the assemblyline manuals. The illustrations identify the fasteners by their part number AND the finish they have. You cross reference that fastener part number in the companion book to the assemblyline manuals "AMK guide to fastener book" . These books are available from most large Mustang vendors.After looking number up in the back of the book it gives a page in the book to turn to . On that given page will give a picture of the fastener in question and also besides the number on that page the length and thread. In this case basically a zinc dichromate Philips head sheet met screw.

For the 1969 fast back mustang I have factory service manuals and I have also a Shelby parts list.  I have also searched all of the normal web sites for the answers I seek.  This includes cobranda and other similar sites.  Yes the valance is stock and i misspoke.  What I am trying to discern is what fastener was used by Ford to attach the fiberglass tail panel to the chassis.  This is the panel that the rear lights are mounted to. The AMK fastener book is a good resource but does it address what was used for a special production vehicles?  If so I will get it on order ASAP.

For the 1969 fast back mustang I have factory service manuals and I have also a Shelby parts list.  I have also searched all of the normal web sites for the answers I seek.  This includes cobranda and other similar sites.  Yes the valance is stock and i misspoke.  What I am trying to discern is what fastener was used by Ford to attach the fiberglass tail panel to the chassis.  This is the panel that the rear lights are mounted to. The AMK fastener book is a good resource but does it address what was used for a special production vehicles?  If so I will get it on order ASAP.

I got one of the FIRST Guide to fasteners from Max in the 90s. I forgot how long I had to wait but it was worth it. It's a must along with Osborn assy manuals. too bad there isn't a 69 interior manual.I know there is a 70 but never a 69. Another good book is the Mustang illustration catalog 1965-1973 as it has assy pages not found in the Osborn manuals.

AMK sellls shelby specific fasteners also. Since I could get them I have all the osborn manuals available for 68 and 69 plus the illustration book and the guide to fasteners by AMK plus Ford shop manuals including the Shelby specific portion(got some mint ones). Can't have enough of them for reference.
