Anyone with recent experience with re-painting a silver jade GT*? Getting ready to restore my GT500 to the original silver jade color (from black). I'd like to get as close as possible to the original color. Looking for recommendations on a paint supplier. Thanks.

Bob,

Don't get caught up by a "name brand", as 80% of automotive paint base products are made in just 3-4 manufacturing plants then labeled for one brand or another. Any competent paint shop can come up with a modern day formula to match your Silver Jade (4 or M3230) color.  Now, with that said, beware of "kits" found on the internet for such paint supplies, I say this as your paint mix will have 8-11 base products mixed together, and all within 1/10th of a gram. You'll want a local shop to mix the paint for you if you plan to spray out the material yourself. Or, if you plan to use a local shop for the work, make certain they not only have their own mixing rack of raw materials, but a digital mixing scale so they can get an accurate mix time and time again as they paint parts, jambs, etc at different times.

Good luck on your quest.

PPG still has it in their bank but its on the list of "endangered species" as so many of the vintage colors are. I agree with Bill's assessment but its challenging to find a competent vendor

I used to own a 1969 Mach 1 that had ~75% original silver jade paint.  There were a few spots touched up on car.  They looked terrible when compared to original paint.  That color in its original form is unique.  As I recall more colors of metal flake than only silver.  I know it's a stretch but if you can find some original paint on a car I highly recommend trying to get it documented correctly.  Or at least some closeup pictures of paint.  I've also seen cars repainted in silver jade.  They always seem "flat" when compared to original.  Such a great color...

I remember that paint totally changing hues depending on lighting conditions.  I might be able to dig up some old pictures showing this if you're interested.

Yes please do. I ordered a quart from The Coating Store to test their silver jade out.

Thanks all for the replies!

Keep in mind, the next batch you order will not match the first, in other words, when you spray it/them out, it will not be the same.

I've heard Jeremy Immings has done a Silver Jade car that they were able to match to the original.

He's on this forum at times you might PM him.

I think he goes by "imming1965" on this forum.
