I'd say it was more than likely just a brain Fart. I have 2x4's dancing in my brain All the time, as I really love them as can be seen in these pictures.

I too am a believer in 2x4's in a '68 GT350. I have been for some time. Mine is a C60A-A, aka, the T/A intake for the Windsor heads.

You've seen mine before but I don't mind showing them off again.

Just Curious, will the 197 GT 500 Air Cleaner fit your Small Block 2x4 Intake set up?

Technically no as built. The top and filter do but because the intake relocates the carbs, it requires a custom base plate.

Here is what I did with that, but I combined it with the KR "ram air ducting" on the hood.

Yes, lots of room on that 413, but man, it gets 10 MPG now, I would hate to think what more carbs would do to that......

Well speaking from my own experience with running a set of Weber 48 ida's, a 750cfm Holley on a 351C was getting about 12mpg no matter what I did.

The Webers on the other hand, were capable of about 22mpg.

So my thought is it depends on how well the engineering is which is another way of stating how "efficient" the design is.


Chrysler was thinking "outside the box" on that cross ram design and had the guts to show it to us all so kudos to them for that.


As far as the 2x4 Holley set up, consider that in my case I am running 2 1850, 600 cfm vacuum secondary carbs. Basically stock.
That particular intake manifold is somewhat of a hybrid in the sense that at WOT, the runners are all equal length with what even now is thought to be optimum distance from throttle to valve.

At idle, it runs on ONE 1850 "stock" Holley. So it is quite capable of delivering upper teens mpg wise but also capable of "Bonzi-death wish" Trans-Am "I am trying to kill myself" flat out running.

That IS what the thing is engineered for and is quite efficient at delivering.

You have to have actually witnessed in person the nature of that type of racing to understand completely my comment.

Thanks and I will take your word and much more experience about "that kind of racing". My only racing experience was old school drag racing, pedal to the floor stuff. And more new style Texas Mile type, WOT, pedal to the floor to join the 200 MPH Club. I don't like curves, braking, and having to slow down......
