With the commencement of cooler weather (we call it whipple weather) on go the massive Carroll Shelby 20s for much improved traction.

Let the games begin!

Question came up:

Should you upgrade your existing factory oil filter?

Affirmative a solid yes sir, it can be beneficial to upgrade your 2016 Mustang oil filter, especially if you drive the car hard or have performance modifications.

The factory filter is adequate but could be improved.

Glad you asked.

With out going into specialty oil filter companies such as KN, PPE, FRANTZ, AMSOIL etc. that's a topic for another post.

We studied the motorcraft oil filters and came to these conclusions.

FL500

The FL500 is the standard filter for the mustang coyote motor.

FL520 vs FL820

Then you have the FL820 filter it has significantly higher capacity and better filtering performance than the FL500 filter.

The FL820 features a larger filter media surface area (283 sq. in. vs. 150 sq. in. for the FL500) and uses a mixed synthetic/cellulose media that is more efficient at a lower micron rating, providing a longer life and better protection.

The FL 820 filter is designed for oil filtration and has a larger capacity than the FL 2051 filter, which is an older design that has been replaced by the FL 2124.

The FL 820 is a Ford Racing filter for performance applications, while the FL 2051 is a standard OE filter, with its replacement FL 2124 featuring increased surface area due to more pleats.

FL 820: This is a Ford Racing filter with a larger capacity and more advanced media compared to standard filters. It features a higher flow rate, higher burst and impulse ratings, and a longer service life due to its high capacity media. It is designed for performance applications that see frequent hard use.

FL 2051

This is an older, standard oil filter for Ford vehicles, specifically the 6.7 Power Stroke engines. It has been replaced by the FL 2124, which is an updated version with more pleats and a higher surface area for filtration.

We know of a few citizens that have opted for this filter on their cars.

We opted to run the FL820 with Mobil 1 15w50 synthetic.

In closing when buying an oil filter, look for vehicle compatibility, a strong synthetic or high-quality media, good filtration efficiency, high dirt capacity, and crucial internal parts like a sturdy anti-drainback valve and a proper bypass valve, choosing reputable brands and matching your oil type.

#78
Top of the morning my WhippleIistas just received a call from a fellow who recently installed a top blender on his 2018 mustang coyote.

He called and said his was hesitating upon acceleration.

Was he scared of the power, I thought?

I asked who tuned it?

It was 123ABC company and they are out of the state, they tried various times to correct.

But to no avail it still stalls and sputters.

I asked why out of state if we have in the tricounty area we have plenty of qualified  tuners.

This will be a topic of another post TUNNING YOUR CAR

But let's get back to this interesting topic.

Tuner and Tunning is out because they can't correct online.

Asked did you check for vacumm leaks? NO

Did you check the inter cooler pump working properly ? NO

Is the bypass valve working? I DONT NO

Are you driving in sport mode? I DONT NO

Conclusion I DONT NO

Went to double check everything since he is one of our neighbor's.

Will get back with findings.....to be continued

OK boys n girls, take note because if you one day whipple your car, this will be key.

Spoke to his tuner (very well known fella in the industry) and the Tunning was within parameters.

vacumm leaks? NONE

inter cooler pump working properly ? YES

bypass valve working? YES

I had the citizen show me how he drives his vehicle.

And then the problem was immediately found.

It was the DRIVER

He placed it in sport mode and proceeded to accelerate rapidly successfully replicating the fail he had experienced.

I almost immediately broke out laughing.

He looked at me puzzled. Why are you laughing.

I said do it again.  He accelerated again with the same results.

I told him to let me drive, got into the drivers seat and accelerated flawlessly.

Car pulled super har, no miss or hesitations what so ever.

Did it several times, he asked how?

Easy peasy you where not taking the traction control off.

Soooooo all this time the control module was experiencing tire slippage and was slowing down his car as he accelerated.

The End and Merry Christmas!

you know it never is, just keep dumping dead presidents on these dinosaur juice drinking machines

So remember to "ALWAYS" hit your traction control switch "OFF"

Notice on your dashboard the "slippery when wet sign" will come on.

Now YOU are on your own, just like a real muscle car back in the day but much more fun.

Enjoy and Merry Christmas  !

PCV that little thing is very important to your supercharged motor.

If it is not working properly you will hear noises, possible rattles and you will experience crankcase pressure and prevent engine damage.

The stock PCV system needs modification or enhancement, as the stock PCV valve may not function correctly under boost pressure.

An air/oil separator or catch can should also be installed on the passenger-side PCV line, between the PCV valve and the intake manifold.

This helps pull oil vapor and blow-by out of the system before it can coat the supercharger's rotors and intercooler core, which can degrade performance and octane.

By the way if the pressure is not controlled you will smell burnt oil coming in through your air conditioning vents.

Why?

The pressure may have blown out your v.c. gaskets and oil is now running down your block. It has even happened with a stock 5.0 motor.

Well now that you know about that PCV, let me tell you that your stock valve covers are made of plastic (YIKES!)

And if they aren't warped due to heat or pressure....they will be.

Soooooo this is what you need to do.

Take them off.

Now that you have or are replacing the v.c. or the v.c. gaskets.  This is a must, you will thank me later.

With a stronger mounting provision, these VCT solenoids are more robust for racing applications, and offer increased strength over OEM solenoids.

Just do it
