Thanks in advance for any replies-

On 1604, mounting bolt - front caliper to mounting bracket-  I have one bolt that seems to work itself loose wondering if I am under torqueing the bolt? question what is proper torque setting for this bolt.

Unrelated question, is the H pipe supposed to be coated black similar to the headers?  I am installing Scott Fuller exhaust system and want to make sure coating is correct for this year.  If so, is there a certain ceramic code ?  Maybe I am overthinking this one....

Thanks for any help

Sorry I don't know the torque specs off the top of my head and I am away from my notes. The 66 H pipe was typically bare steel .The Headers were typically the only thing that was painted and evidence suggests that those were painted at the vendor not SA.

A subject that has come up numerous times over the years. Have typically seen them bare as Bob wrote but also have seen and have an example that originally were painted black like the headers. Since they were supplied (believe that is correct) by the same company I don't think it's a stretch to consider that some were done that way. If restoring a car without an H pipe your better off IMHO to choose the more typical bare unpainted finish

Thanks Jeff and Bob-

H pipe bare steel it will remain- easier work!

If you come across the spec for the caliper mounting bracket bolt I would appreciate it .... I am half tempted to crank it down but that has gotten me in trouble before on bolts!

Thanks again- I always appreciate the experts on the forum!

Caliper to mounting bracket 45-60 lbs. From the 1966 service specifications small manual that goes with the shop manual series. I think that they are reproed. They are frequently available used on ebay too. You'll be glad you did if you service your own car which it sounds like you do.

Thanks Bob-

Just ordered the shop manual @ Virginia Classic-

With 10 days of forecasted rain in Portland ( which usually means rain the rest of the winter)  plenty of time to jump into a few projects so shop manual will be helpful.

thanks again
