Is Paradise Wheel the only place that rebuilds these units or are there other options? I'd like to have the one I have rebuilt.

Others "can" do it , I did my own in the late '60's and 70's when I ran them. This was long before Paradise bought the manufacturing rights. The problem is finding the parts ( outside of Paridse's inventory) Paxton ( in the day) was very secretive about the components and I "had" to use them. Today the situation is that because of corporate mergers and the like , drive balls and races are almost extinct as well as someone that remembers the part numbers. If I were building one today , I would have the ball driver "DLC" coated ( a process that applies a diamond like carbon , read virtually indistructable  surface coating) as that part often fails  from heat. I used B&M "Trick Shift " fluid but a modern high temp synthetic could also work. Paradise offers an external cooler kit which is a HUGE improvement.
For most it's easier to have paradise do it.

Do you know if Precision does the DLC coating? I took it apart. It really doesn't look like rocket science to rebuild it but like you say, getting parts is the problem.

Getting the aluminum done is a bit trickier. There is only one place I know of that said they could do it. Oerlicon-Blezer (IIRC) in North Carolina ( or south) . Maybe Callico can do it by now. They are in Denver NC.

Curiosity question. Is this SN-60/Shelby supercharger the same as the one on a 64 Avanti R2?

Curiosity question. Is this SN-60/Shelby supercharger the same as the one on a 64 Avanti R2?

Is this inquiry due to the SN60 unit currently appearing on ebay, with the "BUY IT NOW" of $1500.00?      ???

If so the issue here is that although the seller is stating that the unit is a Studebaker Avanti R2 R3, and I am cautious to dispute this claim, but, it doesn't look like the one on my Avanti R2, so perhaps with some caveat it may still be so, but?

In some applications where Paxton sold assemblies for O.E.M. assembly, do to the singular installation intention, to avoid misassembly instances and to reduce costs of production, one may realize the lack of the multitude of bolt holes in the mating flanges of the drive case noise to the intermediate volute housing, this permitting a multitude of choices for the "clocking" of the the volute discharge, as it is necessary for the oil sump of the drive case to remain at the six o'clock position.

So, I guess, I would assume (here we go!    ::)), of later production than mine, or perhaps a warranty replacement unit, or the unit could perhaps be of a "kit" configuration, or?

But my answer your question is: "MY" Avanti R2 Paxton isn't the same, and it is unique to the application.         ;)

Thanks for the info. I had looked at two R2s for sale over the last few months and the driven unit (pump) looked different on each. I asked one owner what to do if the 'pump' failed and he said there are Stude parts places or you could use a Shelby unit. I thought I should ask those who know to verify the seller.

As indicated previously, as long as the unit doesn't suffer from a catastrophic event, say the impeller is allowed to impact the volute housing (excessively), or perhaps the ball driver disintegrates in the drive case, they are rebuildable.  And I believe the universal or as I refer the "kit" application units will substitute.

Vortech also has Paxton now. But I thinks if's just their regular superchargers with the Paxton name. Doen't look like any of the early stuff.
