It has sold for 236.000$ + 5% BaT Fee´s some people have no idea what they are doing. Just my 2 cents.

If you mean that some have more money then brains, that tends to be counter intuitive.

Ultimately the "open market" determines the value of anything.

To me, complaints about cars selling for too high of a price just sounds like sour grapes. Just because someone else's item couldn't reach that level is no reason to condemn the high sale.

Personally when I think about the COBRA roadster aluminum oil pan that I bought for $75 and resold for $125 and see one for sale for over $2,000, it reinforces that my opinion of what something is worth is meaningless. It is worth what you can get for it on the day that you go to sell it.

I also just saw one for sale for $5,000. My opinion of that is just wow.

Who EVER thought that 427 Cobras would be million dollar cars?

So who's stupid? Me or them?

I bought one with a 2" patch on the side for $25. But how do you think I feel about the 66 all steel hood I paid $100 for?

I am pretty much sold out on all of my good parts. I don't get too involved but it is kind of like driving down the highway and you notice a scantly clad female? I go wow, but keep on driving.

I probably never could afford to buy back my best parts so I don't trouble myself about that. Not having the interest in stopping to at least talk to the female in question is somewhat troubling though? That's probably for the best? Divorce lawyers are too expensive.

@Kent It sold for 236k euros ($264k) plus the buyer fee.  At least it had free shipping to the US and no US import duties.

Oh sorry you are correct it was in Euros I missed that as BaT is a $ company for me. I hope the bidder was aware of that when bidding  :o  with the exchange rate it sold all together for 270.000$ thats a lot. And shelbydoug I really like your storys and how you write about it and its definitely true and I´m on your side but beside that I just looked at the pictures of this GT500 on BaT and in my opinion the price was way to high and now its even more with the exchange rate. I have seen much better Shelby´s in the last months for less money. And yes the 427 Cobras are expensive but there is a reason why and I´m sure that the GT500/350 also will climb.

Why worry that someone in that price range is overpaying? It likely is just "hedge fund money" with the buyer just looking to stash cash somewhere?

I once had a discussion about Cobras being million dollar cars with an automotive financial advisor. I asked won't they ever top out and he said that he doubted it simply for the fact in his view that the higher they went, the better the investment is.

It's an entirely different class of buyers. Be grateful that each purchase like that just makes the valuation of your cars go up.

The problem with most of our Shelbys is that even at $150,000, they are too cheap for many to "invest" in them. It's gonna' be the "kid with the newspaper route" to save up his quarters to buy one...maybe if life permits?

Yes Doug thats true its the same with other models like porsche gt2rs, gt3rs etc. I dont care that much about it. I know my rides and I know how special they are. After 25 years in business I have seen a lot and maybe I see things different after I learned so much. I think at the end of the day we are all a bit different and so is the market.

The bad thing about those "Hedge Fund" buyers and those Investors is, when they buy the Cars, they are pretty much put away rarely to be seen again.

That is showing more and more at the national convention. Less and less cars attending.
