Isn't a Division 1 Gold award nearly impossible to achieve these days?  Or am I thinking of thoroughbred class?

No, not impossible IMO. Just not many out there they are a rare creature  Choosing to take that route a lot depends on a bunch of considerations and choices. Everything from only starting with a great car to like how to act or considerations during judging once its done should be considered. 

Both "standards" are pretty close to one another. Of course there are some that will say the differences are not small but no time to discuss that here.  The scoring structure, point assignment and the balancing of points, are some of the differences.

It was. Apparently (as we were told) an older restoration with some changes for enjoyment and driving since its show days.
