So, how do I re-attach the "down spout", or is it superfluous and can be removed altogether? You cannot view this attachment.
You never know what's around the next bend in the road.

With the air cleaner assembly properly installed, take one hand and grasp the heat rider tube, gently move it towards the air cleaner assembly until it is aligned, then push down on the air cleaner snorkel until the heat riser tube seats against it. Again, it's easy to do if the parts you have are correct for the engine, to make it a bit easier, loosen the air cleaner wing nut to allow additional movement.

Ok, so it just "snaps" into position? No screws or clips or anything else?

correct.
But it's made to work with the factory intake and set up.   If you car has a taller intake manifold, thicker carb spacer, stuff like that mess up that they mate together.

Got it, thank you!

Make sure s-tube is clocked correctly.

There is a notched cutout at bottom outward side if s-tube that slides over a small screw on top  of heat outward side but the hole should be there but sometimes screw is missing.

In the previous picture,  when slot in S tube is secured by the screw,  note the orientation ie the clocking of the metal seams on the S tube relative to valve cover.  The S tube in photo is a repop but should convey the idea

Got it, but I don't have the screw. Easy enough...
