Wanted original disc brake hose

When you say restored, are they just cleaned up to resemble the original finish only or was a new hose also installed? If a new hose, how did you manage to apply the correct single crimp & get a period correct new hose with proper markings? If the hose is original, are these hoses meant for Thoroughbred cars that primarily get pushed around? I don't trust 30-year-old brake hoses on my driver cars. Let alone 50+ year old ones. Just wondering because I just replaced the original hoses on my friends 69 GT500 4 speed last week (aftermarket hoses, car will be a driver) and I figured they are good for nothing but wall art at this point.

I have never bought a repo brake hose or installed one since they are used on many cars. I replate the mounting bracket and clean the hose. I only collect good rustfree from the southwest since that steel mounting bracket does get pitted but it can be removed since it is staked on type crimp but i usually leave bracket on hose and have a guy who only replates the bracket part. The 68-70 mustang disc brake hoses are the same except the brass part where the #s and date code is changed from square to rounded top design in 1970 a running change. Torino hoses look the same but the rubber hose is shorter than mustang cougar type.

Yes restored cosmetically only. The majority will function as they should but limited use should be the realistic expectation.  The main problem with the rubber if you find a good hose core to replate and the rubber isn't too dry rotted where the thin ribs start to degrade is that the inside can collapse and restrict the flow to the point of blockage which can lock up the brake or no brake at that caliper. Yes Trailered concours (DIV II SAAC) or Thoroughbred (DIV I SAAC) are the intended usage for the informed restorer. There are some that previously made all new correct looking reproduction hose with the single crimp but I have not heard if he is still making them. I hate to be cryptic but it is kind of like talking about the guy who is a friend (on a open forum) that you buy M80's from at Fourth of July (seasonal comparison  .

If the ribs crumble when you rub them or bare patch's in the rib design the rest of the rubber integrity is the same way. At the very least expect the hose to be beyond the reasonable safe usage for street driving.
