Hi All,

What is the typical production practice at Shelby American with the 66 GT350 hoods?

1) Where the hoods a delete item at San Jose?
2) Did Shelby American paint the hoods?
3) Was the underside of the hood painted to match the color of the vehicle or are they painted black?
4) Were the fiberglass steel frame hoods and all steel hoods treated the same way in terms of the production?  I know the all  steel hoods had problems with paint sticking due to the poor prep.

I had a buddy ask me about this, and I really hadn't paid much attention to the color of underside of hoods.  As far as I know, all the Wimbledon white hoods are painted black and all the black cars are black. What happened to the blue, green and red cars?  Is it a mix, some painted the color of the car and some painted black?  What was the original intent?  Is either considered OEM configuration?
Thanks
Cory

Let's try it this way  :)

What is the typical production practice at Shelby American with the 66 GT350 hoods?

1) Where the hoods a delete item at San Jose? Looking at add/delete sheets for a typical 66 GT350 build we can see the term used was "Items To Be Omitted" and of the list of body parts, like fenders, yes the "Hood Assy - welded" is listed.  Other sets of sheets often just referred to other additions of the form with updates or changes, but few examples of most of the build groups exist today.

2) Did Shelby American paint the hoods?

With the final exterior coat on fiberglass and steel - Yes Bottom had a semi-gloss coat prior to that and Shelby saw no reason to recoat that surface for both cost and time savings

All steel, top and bottom - Yes

3) Was the underside of the hood painted to match the color of the vehicle or are they painted black?

See above. White, red, blue, green and blacks were typically treated all the same

4) Were the fiberglass steel frame hoods and all steel hoods treated the same way in terms of the production?  I know the all  steel hoods had problems with paint sticking due to the poor prep.

Produced, if I recall correctly by different suppliers so no not all of the same treatments were used on both styles since they were not all made with the same material.

Hope this helps
