Ray Wolff was the last one trying to sell Jim Morrison's car. If it did not sell in Oct 1971 of the last known add. I see that Ray may have done things like this to use what he could of the car.

68cobra427

Since no one knows if the front of the car hit the telephone pole or the middle or back. Ray could of use sections to make another car.

Since Ray was an importer/exporter also, it is possible car stuff went to Mexico. From all that I read and found along with no title with Jim Morrison's sister Anne. I have come to believe that Ray used parts and dismantled the car.

But there is always a chance that the lady that made the call from AZ area saying she was in possession of a dead rock stars car ever comes forward. Slight chance.

Then we continue...... 8)

NO ONE even knows if the "hit a phone pole" story is true. If it did it was not serious enough to total the car. The car was first offered for sale with the Doors studio/office phone number. Ray would have the original title to sell the car (or paperwork from the owner that the title was lost). That title would be surrendered to DMV when the car was sold with the new owners info on the back. DMV would then issue a new title. The car would not have been parted out at that time. You would lose your shirt. This was the time of $100 4 speeds Bellhousing to U joint $50 rear ends $3-500 engines and $10-20 for body panels. Parts of the car were not used by Ray on his race car. The car also seems to have been driven about 10,000 miles between the Doors ad and the last Ray ad. That lady in AZ may have an Elvis Cadillac - where did that story originate?

At least an idea for a future museum display instead of being in a Mecum glass box.

Thanks for posting love it, but i couldn't help but notice even AI doesn't know the difference between 67 & 68 side stripes  maybe it's been done wrong so many times even AI thought it was correct :D

This was a 3 minutes job with Gemini Pro within Google AI Studio, with more time one could get it more accurate of course. Just exercised some free of charge opportunities with movie cars.
I aged it a bit more in another short trial and finetuned Robby Kriegers Gibson guitar. Enough for a nice framed pic for a period Doors enthusiast like me.
Actually the Bullitt camera car #559 did not look much different while in its KY barn. (real pic, not AI)

Anyway a cold case since decades, but somehow they keep catching readers and you never know..if there isn't a new hint coming up. I prefer mystery Mustang stories.

Let's say starting with Ray Wolff being the last one to try and sell this car. Oct 3 1971 last posting in LA Times. Here is my best guess.
In the last part of 1971 Carroll Shelby and Eduardo Velazquez Shelby parts supplier in Mexico City, who would visit Carroll and drive the best cars when at Carroll's location. Even BB cars. Ended their contract. This would also allow Eduardo to be able to purchase used fastback Mustangs/Shelby in the last 3 months of 71 before Mexico changed the rules in 72 for higher duty fees on all imports.
My thought since Ray Wolff and Eduardo were also close friends Ray sold Morrisons car into Mexico. Since Carroll and Ford put a prototype 377 cubic inch 302 into a 69 De Mexico mustang that Eduardo ended up with. What is to say since no BB car was sold into Mexico on record. What would stop Ray from doing a private deal with Eduardo since Carroll and Ford did. It would be nice if someone would reach out to the Mexico Mustang Registry and ask the local car clubs to look around and investigate.

In 71 Mexico would put a new vin tag on the cars. In 72 they stopped.

It would be hard for Eduardo to drive a BB mustang or Shelby or Cobra and not want to get his hands on one. Or someone he new. Since nothing of the the car or title change has ever come up in the US. Mexico is the next best place to look.

After 1967 Shelby was a parts dealer. Ray Wolff was independent. Shelby was given a 2 year racing contract for TransAm and a personal service contract to serve as the face of FORD's Shelby Automotive. When the contract ended CS packed up and moved to Africa for much of the next 10-12 years. His parts business was negated by Ford selling the same stuff at your local dealer. He no longer owned any trademarks (except his name). He had licensed the use of his name on the Mexico cars but had zero involvement in their development or production. I seriously doubt he'd have signed off on the Shelby Mavrick.

Hard to say how Ray was to think and do when being friends with both Carroll and Eduardo. If Carroll asked him not to sell any fastbacks until the contract between Ford-Carroll-Eduardo ended. They did find the bullet stunt car in Mexico. Also if you look at the last picture how did this Mexican official get a 67 Shelby in his collection and all his cars were seized.

I'm just saying that if someone would reach out to the Mexican Mustang registry and ask around to the clubs maybe someone might know something of Jim Morrison car and other Shelby's.

I tried with no reply off their site. I do not speak Spanish so I did not call the number that was posted.

You could go down there on you next vacation and poke around. LOL

Lots of old US race cars went to Mexico and South America. There is nothing cheaper than last years race car. A lot were brought back when vintage racing took off. I even know of some that were "recreated" here as the original car only to have the real car discovered south of the border. There have also been suspicious "finds" of famous cars. If anyone in Mexico had the car it would be known and already be known.
Junk cars (such as the wrecked Bullitt) going to Mexico at that time is also BS. Japan was buying all the scrap they could get. We were making good beer money in college driving around on Saturday to buy non running cars from peoples yards. $10-15 then a quick stop behind a grocery store to remove the seats and gas tank then to the scrapper to get our $45. We'd do 2-3 each week. The scrapper didn't require a pink like the junkyard who were only paying $30-40.
