Good day all, wondering if anyone has any pro's or con's about fuel "additives" for lead or performance etc? I have a 1965 K code that was rebuilt around 1993, carb was rebuilt couple years ago by Gottafish. I can get my hands on 92/93 octane, non ethanol and have been running a mix of that and premium 93 oct with ethanol as that's what the previous owner had been running.
As always, appreciate your opinions! Scott

I have used Octane Supreme octane boost with real lead for years http://www.wildbillscorvette.com/OctaneSupreme01.htm

Thanks Bob.... do you dial in a desired octane number.... meaning if you put in 92 octane pump gas, do you add enough octane supreme to bring octane to say 98?

Yes.  It comes with a directions on the can to tell you how much to add to increase the octane level and using the rating of the fuel you have in your tank and how many gallons in your tank you can calculate how much Octane Supreme to add so you can raise it to your desired octane level.

High compression small blocks do not need as much octane to keep them from knocking under acceleration compared to the same compression FE.

I'm fortunate I don't have any knock currently, just wondering if a little more octane would make it even happier?

You would have to try and see.

Then don't sweat it, this is coming from a guy that on a weekly basis fill ups with 93 octane and then drops another $20 to 25 of an additive to assure our engine stays happy and in one piece.

And if does start pinging (old engines- carbon buildup) back off 1 or more t8n8nh degrees.

Lastly our older cars gas tanks, their send8ng units and  fuel lines do not react well to octane boost additives.

Ask me how I know...

Could be a subject of yet another informative post.

Thanks Bob and FL... I may just get a can of the stuff Bob uses and keep on hand... currently running great so kind of don't want to rock the boat but also if it would benefit from a dribble of the octane supreme that would be nice also. Has a new gar tank, sending unit and lines, so maybe I'm ok there.

Many octane boosters use alcohol and other things can be corrosiv to raise octane. No such problem with octane supreme because it uses good ole tetraethyl lead to increase octane .That is the stuff used to raise octane in our old leaded fuels.  Because of the tetraethyl lead be sure to always use gloves when mixing.

Save your money on the octane booster, enjoy and drive it

Invest in Stabil, we use the marine in all our cars

Advanced Protection: Vapor technology safeguards the engine and fuel system both above and below the fuel line, preventing ethanol-related damage in marine and small engines.

Moisture Removal: Advanced formula specifically designed for water environments effectively removes moisture and helps prevent corrosion damage.

Fuel Preservation: Keeps fuel fresh during storage for up to a year and prevents the buildup of gum and varnish.

Engine Performance: Cleans the fuel system to increase engine power and fuel efficiency, ensuring peak performance for gasoline-powered engines

Thank you FL SAAC, Bob...this gives a lot to consider for sure, I'm in a fairly humid area and moisture removal is important.

Don Johnston

I also live in a humid area and have used Stabil for years. Over time I tried other additives, some mentioned previously, but found fuel system corrosion issues and more problems than advantages. I am also running non-ethanol gas which is easy to get at the pump nearby due being near a marina. Stabil.  Non-e fuel is preferred by those with fishing boats and other water craft to keep moisture out of the fuel system, especially during long periods of non-use. I find the same advantage. 8)
Just nuts.

Thanks Don... I think i'll get a little stabil for sure... I use it in my landscape equipment and seems like it's popular here as well.

Does everyone here that uses Stabil marine go by the instructions on the bottle? Says 1 oz for every 10 gallons... I googled use of this and many results said 1 oz per 5 gallons?
