I am not too familiar with all the exact details on 65/66 shelbys , I have these and Im trying to figure out what this style steering wheel center would have come on? has Ford number C6OA-3655-A

This center is for use with the factory "Deluxe interior" Mustang style wheel,
Did any 65-66 shelbys come with the Deluxe style wheel? Is this correct for 66 GT350-H ?
When I google for images,  im seeing a few different types of steering wheels on 65-66 shelbys.

thank you in advance

65 GT350 used a genuine wood wheel and all 66 GT350 fastbacks came from the factory with the Mustang deluxe plastic woodgrain wheel. The steering wheel center caps you picture are factory correct for 66 GT350 including Hertz. They are currently not reproduced.

The Mustang deluxe steering wheel center cap is similar but has "Ford Mustang" debossed around the perimeter and the tribar Mustang emblem on the center plastic insert.

The '66 GT350 used a similar cap from the Fairlane deluxe wheel, hence the C6OA engineering number. This cap is not debossed. The plastic center insert is changed for the Shelby application to a Cobra snake logo reading "GT350" rather than "Cobra".

The OEM cap is cast metal while some previous reproductions were plastic.

There was a super nice reproduction made by California Pony Cars.

Unfortunately, they ran out a few years ago and have not made another run.

+1. The 66 GT350, 66 Fairlane Deluxe Interior, and 66 Galaxie 7-litre all share the same center cap with a C6OA-3655-A casting number, only the emblems are different. Photo below shows the Fairlane and Galaxie versions...

I have this last one on the shelf that doesn't have a steering wheel it is designated for -yet. ;)

How can one tell an original from a repop? I have a metal one on my clone which I will be selling shortly.

Britton

Originals will have C6OA-3655-A cast into the underside of the cap, as Dave mentioned above. You can typically see part of the casting through the emblem cutouts. See attached photos.
