Was the entire interior painted the charcoal metallic or was there locations that were just a semi-flat black? The car has a fold down seat. Thanks for any info.

Charcoal metallic except the kick panels, door panels ,hard back seat ,lower seat side trim, visors , seat vinyl, dash pad and lower dash vinyl trim. I suppose you can add rear view mirror. I am sure some one will come to my aid if I left anything out.

Just another note or addition to all the information above offered on the subject if your doing a restored car like the cars were originally built.

Remember that the painted areas of the unibody (dash, A pillars and door in general) were painted before the exterior color was applied.

Dash was not painted charcoal all the way to the windshield opening but stopped (faded away) near the top of the face. Areas around the defroster vents were blacked out with black paint by hand

Door to exterior color transition did not follow the weatherstrip all the way around the edges of the door at the ends and bottom but moved inward at the bottom and because of lack of effort (bending over or just making the effort) often the paint there (exterior and or interior paint) can be very thin. So in the pictures below the interior paint was masked off with a precut mask allowing body color to over the other surfaces

And if you love details, even in areas where no one else will never likely be see, the inner part of the inner door surface was not masked off like the surrounding area and left that area to get a lot or a little exterior paint over that area as shown in the pictures below

How about the underside of the fold down seat? Seems to me to be a black solid material with a satin sheen to it.

One of the replys from the linked threads above...

What is not Charcoal Metallic:
the headliner, A-pillar pads, the main dash pad, dash knee pad, sun visors, door arm-rest insets, molded plastic seat backs and lower side/front seat trim, upper rear metal vent and slide units, roll bar cover, lower front kick panels, carpet and fasteners which are chrome plated.

Every thing else is charcoal black metallic, with some flattener to reduce the sheen.

Partial list, I'm sure I'll omit something but others will chime-in:

Two Metal Trim strips at base of windshield on top of dash pad

The metal portion of the dash, ash tray front surface, glove box front surface

Steering column cover, U-shaped bracket that holds the steering column to the underside of the dash

On the doors, the Textured metal surface and front, rear and lower edge of doors (gray stops BEFORE the rubber seal)

Two large metal roof panels at the top of the rear glass above the roll-bar,

Rear lower and upper large side panels and the trims strips that cover the joint all around the back, the upper and lower rear corners, upper panel above the trap door, the trap door - front and back and the hinges (there were two versions of the trim strip at the top of the trap door - early has hidden studs on the back of the trim strip - later has exposed chrome screws), most cars have the later rear seat latch stamped-metal cover plates which also get the Charcoal Gray Metallic,

One section of the fold-down rear seat that is curved-metal and textured - the one not covered with carpet.

I attempted to use the rattle can "Accumatch Charcoal Metallic L-4464" paint today.

It appears to be too glossy and had problems with streaking. I'm not really set up for spraying with a gun and I'm afraid of touch up paint not matching.

Is there any better choices out there? Many thanks!!

You just named the two alternatives which are spray can and spray gun . Regardless of how you apply the paint you typically need to lay down a base coat of black . I use flat black as a base coat and apply the dark charcoal metallic does not cover well and if you put too heavy of a coat on you will fill the grain on the panel . At least the parts that have a grain.

It's also suggested that you shot or apply the Charcoal "dry" (couple of thin dry coats for coverage) any attempt to lay down a nice wet coat typically results in a glossier finish and along with filling in the grain with the paint.

Thank you!

Contemplating my next move. For what ever reason the panels with the graining came out glossier than the metal panels? Older paint might have something to do with it as well.

the same paint color can appear differently on different materials (metal, plastic, vinyl etc.) because of surface texture.

a porous surface may absorb more paint, creating a lighter shade, while a glossy surface reflects more light, making the color seem more intense.
