Adhesive to attach badges?

What do you all use to glue the fender emblems and gas cap emblem on?  Obviously the NOS adhesive is long dead.

I have used clear adhesive Silicon for the gas emblems, gives you time to get it positioned just right, then let it sit flat for a day and install the lid on the car.

Fender emblems - do you mean the aluminum insert to the chromed-plastic base or the chromed-plastic base to the fender.

For the first the same as above, for the second there are plastic "pins" on the back of the base that fit into the holes in the fender between those two is a metal "barrel clip" (item "A" in the drawing) that fits in the fender hole and grips the plastic pin on the back of the base. (on the drawing, the call-out at the top reads "PEAK LINE")

IF however you are adhering the fender emblem base (without the pins or the holes) to the fender then some two-sided automotive emblem tape would be the way to go.  Since you kind of get one shot with that you may want to use some painters tape located on the fender to help get that location and alignment right the first time.

There is a guide for the location, I'll look for it and add it to this post.

Thanks JD.  Bob sent me a really nice gas cap emblem and I can't wait to install it. 

It's funny you said to " let it sit flat for a day", which reminded me how much easier the flat gas caps were to do this with.

I have learned to use clear silicone instead of adhesive . Of course other adhesives work to hold a emblem on  but the silicone helps if having to take one off and salvage one regardless of which type. As JD says the silicone gives you the time to adjust just right the clocking of the emblem.   I apply the silicone to the back of the gas cap emblem and use the blue making tape to hold it in place until the silicone sets up. Just what I do.

The silicon will also squeeze out a little - wait until it's dry to trim it.
It also has an advantage of being thinner than the tape.

If you put on so much on that it squeeze's out I have found it is more trouble trying to trim it after it sits up compared to wiping off area with alcohol while the silicone is still soft .

If it's going to be a seldom driven show car a little dab'll do ya. If it going to be driven and maybe get rained on or heaven forbid go through a car wash then it's best to put a thin film on the whole thing so water can't get behind it.

Thanks to all of you who helped me out.  JD, I used the 3M tape for the side badges, but used the Silicone technique for the gas cap, as you suggested.  It's far from a show car, just a nice driver, so this is perfect.  Also thanks to Bob Gaines for selling me the badge at a very fair price.

You missed my point . If any squeezes out it is easier to wipe excess off with the alcohol while it has not set up rather then waiting until it is hard to trim.

Actually that's what I did  Bob.  The excess wiped of easily with isopropyl alcohol while it was still wet.  Thanks again to everyone.
