Those last few shots may contain the whole answer. Most of the canyon roads by the beach were not on the top of the hills #25 showing the beach and homes makes it north of Sunset Blvd which was a straight (well except for Deadman's Curve, etc) from Petersen's building. A right turn would take them to Tuna Cyn or Big Rock. Both you could get that view of the beach. Tuna has the paved (now abandoned road) and dirt fire access road.
