Randy,

I have added 6S240 as receiving California plate UAM692. According to the Registry other 1966 cars received the U series plates.

I cannot see any reason that DMV would have replaced the plates from 1966 to 1972.

Unless some additional information comes along, I assume the plate to be the first issued to that car.

People/owners just need to realize that often the reason for these sequences of letters relate to a car sitting or being used for some purpose that delayed them receiving the plates until. This is often indicated in the registry

Dennis,  this correct, found my plates SPY885

One of the big reasons I bought my car was it having those orignal plates

98SVT - was 06GT

California is now reissuing the black plates, ....
The new plates use a smaller font to make room for 7 rather than the old style 6 digits. They also consider it a vanity plate and charge you an extra $40 a year to have them.

It's good that they will be easily identified as reissue, making it easier to determine if plates are as issued when these cars were new.

Keep in mind that I am researching all states; not just California.

Just a shameless bump to see if anyone may have something new to add. Keep in mind this is for ALL years, every state and all cars including Cobras.

Any leads much appreciated.

I recently acquired 6S1291. The car still retains its original California black plates, SRA 970.

Thanks Malcolm that is one that I did not have recorded. I very much appreciate your adding it to our list.

The number of confirmed plates is growing slowly. Everyone please keep in mind this is not just "California". We do have some from other states as well. I would especially like to add to the Hertz cars out there.

Thanks again,

Dennis

Just another shameless bump to see if anyone may have something new to add. Many of you have said you would get back to me on some of the cars that I am looking for I do hope you find your records.

I am also beginning to add more Cobra plates as well.

Any will be very leads much appreciated. Thanks to all who have already helped.

1966 hertz car black orig ca plates SVS 724.  Car is #1867. I can't remember if I saw this in your list or not. I think your research is very interesting.

I do already have 6S1867 in my database along with a footnote stating that it now has a 4 speed transmission installed. It was delivered to Hertz Los Angeles the same day as my car.

I also came across some information from a car Bill Collins used to own, 6s1695 plate was SVR 415.

6S1695 is also in the database. It was in the same group of cars delivered to Hertz Los Angeles.

Thanks for sharing.
