Parts For Sale / 5B16 bare Hipo 289 head
January 31, 2026, 10:07:35 AM
$1000 plus shipping. Extensive porting and decked. I purchased this head several years ago as a spare for the R model I now no longer own. Workmanship looks excellent and I'd describe the modifications/improvements very similar to, if not exactly like, the "Valley Head Service" heads that were on the car. A good head for the construction of a high compression race motor.

Which head has the weld repair? Thank you, Paul.

Original no stripe cars I used to own, SFM147 and SFM541. I like the look.

I have no intention of putting LeMan stripes on the car. My other cars have them though.

Thank you fellas. This car will provide me with many hours of enjoyment working on it as well as driving it. More updates/pictures to follow.

It's such a nice (not necessarily highly valuable) car that I'm conflicted as how to proceed. As of right now, I do NOT think I'll do the following that I had initially intended:
A) put the GT 350 aluminum plaque on the taillight panel
B) cut the dash for the oil and tach gages and
C) install the the vintage Webber system.

There's nothing better than a set of properly tuned Webbes, in performance or the visual WOW factor under the hood, but I'm partial to the appearance of the conventional 1965 GT 350 intake and carb setup.

T code, now running a 5 bolt HIPO 289, cast iron T10, 9" Detroit Locker, M1 override traction bars, Konis, lowered A Arms.

Used extra/leftover ORIGINAL Shelby parts:
S1MS small COBRA intake, Buddy Bar valve covers, S1MS T oil pan, 1" sway bar, export brace, 66 Impact tagged lap belts, and a 1966 over the counter wood steering wheel.

Reproduction parts:
Hood, Cragar wheels, service replacement Holley LIST 3259 carb, try Y headers/Branda exhaust, quick steering idler/pitman arms, Montecarlo bar, and hipo fan.

Went a bit overboard but put to good use a bunch of leftover parts I had collected over the years.

Does the 1966 over the counter wood steering wheel normally have the black tabs where the spokes meet the wooden rim?
