1966 SHELBY GT350H SFM#6S1618, an automatic Hertz car, sold at Barrett-Jackson for an incredible $420,000 or a total price of $462,000 including buyers' premium.
The white intake gaskets Ford used in the late 60's early 70's were allegedly asbestos based.  They were unbelievably hard to break loose a took a lot of scrapping and digg8ng to clean up. Same thing for the front pump gaskets on the automatic transmission
Probably shortened my life a few years working that environment back then. But it was fun

They lasted but have the look of pressed asbestos so they probably got banned.
It's the CA state rock: Since 1965, serpentine has been the State Rock, the first such designation for any state. The choice of serpentine was an economic one. Serpentine is a source of asbestos, which was widely used in construction and other industries. With more serpentine than any other state, California benefitted financially from this mineral.

I think I still have a white pair in the gasket pile - worth digging out?

I used to have sets of those, now they are impossible to find the correct ones
Always searching for things like that

Services Offered / Re: Beware of fake websites

I've pictures of my car on sites that are supposed to have it for sale. It's sometimes a different VIN number, but it will have my tag on it. A lot come from photos Jerry Heasly took for an article over 10 years ago. They just make a copy and claim to own the car or are selling the car "for a friend who is old and doesn't us the internet"

While July is pretty good, I'm more partial to Miss November

Just received my calendars from the Carolina  SAAC Group. The quality is first class and the photos show some really nice examples of the Shelby brand. Thanks for putting these together
Everyone who loves the early Shelby's should buy a couple, they are well worth the price

I really don't know how you have discovered everything there is to know about these cars, but with every new issue more stuff is found. The treasure trove of all of this stuff is just amazing beyond words
Thank you for all the information

About 15 years ago I had my tach (1966 GT350) repaired by this folks
Works great, fast service. They had apparently purchased all of Faria tach stuff

Quote from: Bob Gaines on December 19, 2025, 07:04:44 PMIt can be hard to identify a rim profile of shiny chrome. I quickly put some masking tape to highlight the profile and marked the edge with a sharpie to identify the edges. I took a picture from two slightly different angles.  I hope that you can see the difference in the offset of this wheel compare to the one you first pictured. To me there is a big visible difference between the Hertz wheel and the Mopar wheel in your pictures. Some people for whatever reasons have difficulty seeing small differences in this special wheel. If you can't see the difference then I can't help further. I hope this helps.

great visual
thanks

All these great stories make me believe that I can eventually get the original block for 6S1431. Did have contact with the current alleged owner of the block awhile back but he dropped of the face of the earth.
It's in southern California. I only need the block and main caps, I got everything else I need (Crank, rods, camshaft, etc).
