Auction Description:
This 1965 Shelby Mustang GT350 is one of 504 street-production examples built for the model year, and it was specified with the two available options – LeMans-style Guardsman Blue over-the-top stripes and 15″ Cragar alloy wheels. Its second owner reportedly used the car to tow his race car and installed a Maier Racing front apron and a 34-gallon gas tank. The car is believed to have remained registered in California through 1985, at which point its new owner removed the aftermarket front valance and fuel tank. After changing hands in the mid 1990s, the car underwent a restoration overseen by Shelby American Automobile Club judge John Brown, and in 2007, it was entered at the SAAC National Convention Concours event at Miller Motor Sport Park in Utah and won Premier in Division 1. It was subsequently owned by several collectors and enthusiasts before being acquired by the current owner in 2018. The car's 289ci HiPo V8 is linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a locking rear differential, and it is further equipped with Koni dampers, Kelsey-Hayes front disc brakes, low-back front bucket seats, and a dashboard-mounted instrument pod. This GT350 is now offered on their behalf by the seller in Illinois with a clean Montana title.

All 1965 GT350s were finished in Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue rocker-panel stripes, and this example has the optional over-the-top stripes as well. It is believed to have been first delivered to Hayward Motors in California, and remained registered in the state through the mid 1980s. Features include a steel-framed fiberglass hood with a functional scoop and quick-release pins, a mesh grille with an offset running-horse logo, and sail-panel louvers. The detail photos in the gallery were taken in August 2025.

Optional 15″ Cragar cast-alloy wheels are wrapped in 215/70 Avon CR6ZZ tires, and a spare tire is secured atop the fiberglass package shelf in the cargo area. GT350s were built with a lowered front suspension, a larger front sway bar, Koni dampers, Kelsey-Hayes front disc brakes with ventilated rotors, and Galaxie-sourced 2.5″-wide rear drums.

The cabin is trimmed in black vinyl and features low-back bucket seats along with color-keyed door panels, carpeting, and rubber floor mats. GT350-specific equipment includes 3″ aircraft-style lap belts and a fiberglass rear shelf in place of the standard Mustang's rear seats. The floor-mounted manual shifter has a reverse-lockout lever and a black shift knob.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts a horizontal-sweep 120-mph speedometer flanked by gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature, while an arched pod situated centrally atop the dash houses an oil-pressure gauge and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. The odometer shows 19k miles on a five-digit odometer.

The 289ci Windsor V8 was shared with K-code Mustangs and was topped with a four-barrel Holley carburetor and a cast-aluminum intake manifold to produce a factory-rated 306 horsepower in street versions of the GT350. Additional GT350-specific features include a finned aluminum "T" oil pan with hinged baffles, open-letter valve covers, and tri-Y exhaust headers leading to exit pipes ahead of each rear wheel.

The four-speed Borg-Warner T10 manual transmission is equipped with an aluminum housing and close-ratio gears, while the 9" rear end has a Detroit Locker differential.

The car is titled as a 1965 Ford Shelby using VIN SFM5S421.

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Re: Wiring
May 28, 2026, 04:29:29 PM
If you are keeping the car stock, I would stay with an OEM type wiring harness.  I would talk to Pete (Coralsnake) here on the forum.  He sells the best OEM wiring harnesses made by Alloy Metal Products.

If you are restomoding the car and adding a lot of power features (power windows, locks, wipers, seats....etc..etc.) an aftermarket "Painless" type harness may be the way to go for that application.

Description:

This 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350 was first delivered in early 1967, having been ordered with an automatic transmission, red paintwork, rear seats, and an AM radio. Acquired by its first owner in April 1967, it was repainted the next month, and the rear end was rebuilt at the same time. Having been repainted green, the car was sold to a salvage yard c.1971 without its original engine or transmission, and after changing hands and being fitted with a replacement engine and gearbox, it was recommissioned and returned to red c.1983. The seller acquired the car in 1988, and 2012 it was disassembled and restored. The 289ci V8 is topped by HiPo heads and has been retrofitted with a Crane Cams camshaft, and it is linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Lok differential. Driven ~60k miles by the seller, this GT350 is now offered with a copy of the original invoice, a copy of the SAAC registry entry, the owner's manual, and a Wisconsin title in the seller's name.

The car was delivered with red paintwork, and historical notes indicate the paint was polished to remove foreign materials in March 1967 and repainted in May 1967. The car was then reportedly stolen several times and underwent a color change, and it had dark green paintwork at the time it was sold to a salvage yard in 1971. The car was then fitted with a replacement 289ci V8 and converted to a four-speed manual transmission, and in 1983 it was returned to its original shade of red.

Restoration work began in 2010, with the car being disassembled before both quarter panels were replaced.

The seller notes the right turn signal does not self-cancel and that some bubbling is present on the upper right quarter panel where it meets the roofline, adding that the bubbling is difficult to see.

The car rides on BFGoodrich rubber mounted on the 10-spoke alloys, and GT350s were factory-equipped with Kelsey-Hayes front disc brakes as well as larger rear drums than standard Mustangs. The seller added Koni dampers as part of the restoration work.

The interior received new carpeting and a replacement headliner and door panels, and the dashboard was repainted. Latch-and-link belts are provided for the driver and front passenger, and a push-button radio has been retained.

The simulated wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer flanked by an ammeter as well as fuel-level, oil-pressure, and coolant-temperature gauges. A Cobra-branded 9k-rpm tachometer is center-mounted atop the dash. The seller replaced the cluster lens and notes the speedometer reads 15-20 mph high. Around 60k of the 90k miles indicated were added by the seller, though the cluster is believed to have rolled over and total mileage is unknown.

A replacement 289ci block was installed in the early 1970s, and the engine has been built with HiPo heads, a Crane camshaft, and a Holley carburetor. A reproduction exhaust system and tri-Y headers were also fitted.

The four-speed manual transmission was retrofitted in the early 1970s, and records indicate the Traction-Lok differential was rebuilt in the late 1960s.

Copies of invoices, a history summary from the 2019 Shelby Registry, copies of correspondence with Howard Pardee, and a Crane Cams spec sheet are included as displayed.

The title carries an "In Excess of 99,999" odometer notice.

Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

Richard McAdam, known as "Doc" to his friends and family, epitomizes "work hard, play hard." Born and raised in rural Appalachia, Doc went on to become a renowned neurosurgeon in Virginia. Patients could regularly find "Doc" pulling into the hospital parking lot in one of his beloved Cobras or high-performance Mustangs. These cars were driven and enjoyed by "Doc" through the years, taking his family on back road joyrides on sunny day commutes. Hagerty Marketplace is honored to present the Doc McAdam Collection, offered entirely without reserve.

* * *

Carroll Shelby's GT350, created to meet the Sports Car Club of America's rules for entry into the B Production class, fulfilled the Mustang's potential as a competition car and became an instant legend. Shelby built 562 GT350s for 1965, including 34 race cars (GT350R models) and 500-plus slightly toned-down street versions.

Ford initially shipped an SCCA‑required homologation run of approximately 100 Wimbledon White K‑Code Mustang GT Fastbacks from its San Jose assembly plant to Shelby American's facility in Venice, California, while later cars were completed at larger leased hangars at Los Angeles International Airport. All vehicles underwent extensive Shelby American modifications to the engine, suspension, and brakes.

According to the Shelby American Automobile Club, this Shelby GT350 was built on the second-to-the-last day of 1965 street car production in July of '65. Used as a drag car in its early years, this Shelby's seams were welded together to improve rigidity. It retains its original radiator support, suggesting that it has never been wrecked, although the car no longer has its original engine and transmission.

Following a restoration in the 1980s that resulted in a pair of national prize-winning trophies, the GT350 was purchased in 1988 by Doc Adams, who modified the car for performance driving by installing a high-performance 302ci V8 engine, TREMEC five-speed manual transmission, rear disc brakes, aluminum shock tower braces, Recaro high‑bolster cloth bucket seats, and AutoMeter gauges. The car, which wears its original Shelby serial number tag, has been refinished in correct Wimbledon White paint with Guardsman Blue rocker stripes and LeMans racing stripes.

This 1965 Shelby Mustang GT350 is now represented by a Broad Arrow Specialist and is offered at no reserve with the car's original seats and Shelby Cragar mag wheels, and a clean Virginia title in the seller's name (VIN listed as 5S561).

Ownership History

This 1965 Shelby Mustang GT350 is offered from the Doc McAdam Collection of no reserve automobiles. Mr. McAdam purchased the car in 1988.

According to the Shelby Registry, original work on the car began on 30 June 1965 and was completed on 8 July 1965. Ordered on 27 July 1965, it was consigned and shipped to Lynch-Davidson Motors of Jacksonville, Florida, and invoiced for $3,547 plus $100.75 freight for a total cost of $3,647.75.

It was purchased by an unknown owner in Banks, Alabama, and eventually sold to Ken Salter of Pace, Florida, in early 1982. The Shelby was "painted blue and given shag carpeting, a Playboy air freshener, 1968 Mustang Mach 1 seats, baby moon hubcaps, side marker lights, and fur-covered dash. It was missing the engine, tachometer, and steering wheel. Salter restored it with Cragar wheels and painted it original (Wimbledon) White, and it won two National First Place trophies."

Additional Information

The Virginia title lists the VIN as 5S561.

According to Howard C. Pardee, the 1965 & '66 GT350 Registrar for the Shelby American Automobile Club, the GT350s were not built in numerical order. This example wears the second-to-the-last serial number, and SAAC records show that No. SFM5S561 was built on July 8, 1966, the second-to-the-last day of street GT350 production.

Pardee explains, "The 1965 and 1966 GT350s were NOT finished in either Shelby or Ford serial number order. The Shelby serial number was assigned just after a delivery truck dropped off the cars at Shelby's facility at the Los Angeles Airport and were put in long lines in random order. When the assembly line was ready for the next car, a worker was sent outside to bring a car into the building. Most probably, the worker would pick the car that was closest to the entry door and drive it in."

The seller's representative says, "This GT350 would be a great candidate for participation in Lee Cross' annual GT350 tour."

From the 428 Cobra Jet page - https://www.428cobrajet.org/id-carb

"Aftermarket Holley carbs have four-digit date codes that use the first three digits to describe a day in the Julian calendar, with the last digit used to identify the year within a non-specific decade. For example, "1999" could represent the 199th day of 1969, 1979, or 1989"

3291 = 329th day of 1971, 1981 or 1991

Auction Description:

This 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350 originally invoiced in November 1965 to Courtesy Motors in Englewood, Colorado, having been specified with standard equipment and optional rear seats. Several warranty repairs were performed by the dealer in 1966, including repairing the speedometer gear and brakes, and it the current owner's family acquired the car in 1976. It is believed to have been repainted in the 1980s, and its 289ci HiPo V8 was rebuilt in 2025. The car rides on 10-spoke alloy wheels and has power-assisted front disc brakes, and headers linked to a side-exit exhaust system. This GT350 is now offered iby the seller on behalf of its owners with a copy of the original invoice, a copy of the SAAC registry entry, a National Shelby Registry certificate, a Shelby Auto American Club certificate, service records, spare parts, and a clean Colorado title.

A copy of the invoice for 6S400 is displayed above, with other supporting documents provided in the gallery.

The car has Wimbledon White paintwork with dual dark blue stripes and GT350 side stripes. It was repainted in the 1980s from what the seller can tell, and chips and areas of bubbling are depicted in the gallery.

The 10-spoke alloy wheels are mounted with Goodyear Blue Streak tires. GT350s were factory-equipped with Kelsey-Hayes front disc brakes as well as larger rear drums than standard Mustangs. The brake lines were replaced in 2025, and older Gabriel dampers are fitted.

The cabin features low-back bucket seats trimmed in black vinyl, and this example was specified with optional rear seats. The latch-and-link belts are shown above.

The steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer flanked by an ammeter as well as fuel-level, oil-pressure, and coolant-temperature gauges. A Cobra-branded 9k-rpm tachometer is center-mounted atop the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 3k miles, and records denote that it was repaired by Courtesy Motors early on.

Shelby modified the 289ci HiPo V8 with a cast-aluminum high-rise intake manifold for the four-barrel Holley carburetor as well as headers, a baffled aluminum oil pan, and cast-aluminum valve covers. Advertised output was 306 horsepower and 329 lb-ft of torque. In 2025, the engine and carburetor were rebuilt, the hoses and belts were replaced, and the exhaust system was re-coated.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

SAAC documentation is also displayed in the gallery.
