Quote from: Craner on December 28, 2025, 06:27:07 PMWould build dates and casting dates of these transmissions be based on the car build date?

Typically 1-3 weeks before the car assembly date, or would this vary based on these transmissions being unique to the GT350?
Possibly they were built in batches and wouldn't follow what is typical of "standard mustang K code sub assemblies".

Thanks
Fran

Based on my observations, you can generally go by this. 1-3 weeks may be a little "tight," but I have found them much closer to build times than, for example, Koni shock or Holley carb. dates.

Quote from: doublemyv on December 28, 2025, 08:23:17 PMFunny you should ask, as my afternoon crawling around the interior of # 444 has determined that neither hole has been used in the past. In fact, there's a second sheet metal edge behind and below the welded on plates, and my attempt to pre-mount the hooks found that the driver side trim screw created new threads in order to mount the hook, and the passenger side hole was 3/4 blocked by the sheet metal edge behind the coat hook bracket and required drilling of the second layer to get the hook screw installed.  See photo of the screw and my masking tape with measurements to find the hole once the headliner is installed.  I'm wondering if the transition from No coat hooks to Yes coat hooks in mid May 1965 created some variances of where the line worker put the hooks ? Could it be that # 444 being built in Mid May got the hooks above the vents ?  Mark

Mark,

If those holes never had a screw, I personally would not install them.

I can dig into my pictures a bit more, and let you know which cars I have seen with and without coat hooks around this build period.

I know that I have done some research on this, but I have to re-visit it.

Ask a Registrar / Re: 66 hood to cowl seal
December 29, 2025, 09:38:11 PM
I see more of them bent like that than not.

It all depends upon how the hood fits.

Removed or modified push-in rubber hood bumpers along the top sides of the fenders are sometimes seen as well.

Quote from: doublemyv on December 28, 2025, 05:29:21 PMThis forum is truly a blessing.  Thanks to all the wisemen, and the link to the old post on Fastback Coat Hooks.  It looks like I have the extra sheetmetal for the coat hooks, as # 444 was a mid May build.  The hooks were found above the vents when I got the car, and although that seemed like an odd location, I didn't know any better.  Now I do.  I will put the coat hooks on the correct sheetmetal tab as shown in the pictures below during final interior assembly.
Mark

Mark,

Can you determine (you probably can) if those holes show previous evidence of having a screw installed in them?

Quote from: CharlesTurner on December 28, 2025, 12:15:43 AMIt was a pretty well done car for the time it was restored and it looks like there are still a lot of trick parts on it that would be impossible to find these days.  Although, I wonder if the wheels on it now are the same ones when it was judged?  Those wouldn't pass in any concours judging these days... correct 15x6 KH wheels are a big $$ item.

I've always seen it with Cragars.

Interesting to see those particular steel wheels on it now.

The car reportedly sold at Russo and Steele Monterey 2015 for $313,500. I assume that was "all in." I am not sure it has been at auction after that.

Quote from: doublemyv on December 28, 2025, 11:30:54 AMGood Morning, I have a question about the front brake caliper bolts on 5s444.  In the photo it shows ( from Left to Right ) the drilled head bolts, old notch head bolts, and new notch head bolts.  Since I don't remember that SAI did any safety wiring on the street model GT 350s, I think the notch head bolts are correct for assembly line builds.  Does anyone have any info on the correct bolts ?  Thanks, Mark

The ones without the holes are correct for your car.

You will find the ones with holes for safety wire on '67s. Honestly, it's a great idea.

I have seen them back out on '65-66 cars. I try to remember to check mine at every oil change.

Mark,

Thank you for sharing these pictures. I'm happy that you are making progress. It's fun to see things coming together.

I have a question, was that coat hook originally installed in that position? That is very unusual.

It is interesting to note that I have seen many cars without the hole/provision for the coat hooks. These cars are usually seen without coat hooks at all. These cars are usually built around the time of your car.

Perhaps there was no provision for the coat hooks on your particular car, so they just installed them at the location you show?

1965 GT350/R-Model / Re: 1965 trunk mounted battery
December 27, 2025, 09:31:26 AM
Dominic,

No one actually ever made a reproduction, but you could sometimes talk them into "reversing the posts."

In other words, the "+" on the case would stay the same, yet it would actually be the negative side.

As you can imagine, this wasn't ideal. Antique Auto Battery is the company who would do this, and as far as I know, they are no longer in business.

Turbo Start is the only company that I am aware of that is making the Autolite batteries. They will not do the reverse posts.

In my opinion, the best alternative is to get a Group 34 battery with a "topper."

I am guessing this is what you are looking for.

I used to sell them separately. I doubt any Mustang parts company does, but AMK does make them.

There was a super nice reproduction made by California Pony Cars.

Unfortunately, they ran out a few years ago and have not made another run.

Wanted to Buy / Re: C0DD-5486-A Sway Bar Brackets
November 04, 2025, 06:26:05 PM
Quote from: hertz350 on November 04, 2025, 04:37:07 PMLooking for one or more C0DD-5486-A reproduction sway bar brackets. These were available as reproduction at NPD and VA Mustang a few years ago but are now discontinued.

Sorry, I cannot help, but for information purposes, this was my reproduction so there was only one "brand" on the market.

If you find an old set of those, they were exactly like the original assembly line parts. The Ford service part was made from a slightly thinner gauge of metal.

That being said, it was very difficult to tell the difference unless you measured them side by side.

Ask a Registrar / Re: 66 original exhaust
October 29, 2025, 04:28:38 PM
Quote from: aboss4tg on October 27, 2025, 05:08:39 PMI purchased a 66 A code a while back with dual exhaust installed and these were on the car with these paper tags.
There are stampings that read 2.000 AL in two spots on these and would like to know if these are originals?

I only showed the one side as I am cleaning up the surface rust on them, and they show no major issues or rust thru. Used rust cleaner jell and brass brush with great results.

I'm thinking of using these on my 66 Hertz. Any comments would be appreciated.

Todd

As mentioned, this is a very old reproduction from Special Interest Cars in Canada. Lots of differences between that and the assembly line or Ford service part.

Quote from: SCOTTGTK on September 15, 2025, 02:11:57 PMfolks, anyone have a opinion one way or the other about where to get a set of 4 style steel wheels for a 1965 Coupe? I see them online in several places, roughly similar price.... thanks for your thoughts! Scott

I just saw this, but maybe it will still help. I'm going to assume you are talking about the original size in 14 x 5.

The Wheel Vintique versions were easily the nicest ones on the market...and USA made. Unfortunately, they dropped the 5 inch wide rim. I believe that you can still get 6 and 7 inch wide versions...at least when they are in stock.

Wheel Vintiques were acquired by the firm that owns Coker.

We never handled the current, imported versions from Drake.

Charles,

Thank you for posting these results.

Any chance that you can provide the Shelby numbers on at least the '65 and '66 cars?

1965 GT350/R-Model / Re: 65-66 Under Hood Color

The hood from 5S162 was originally painted black on the underside.

I have seen a few others during this build time done the same way.
