In 1965 at Indy 500, Jim Clark took the checkered flag in the #82 Lotus-Ford Type 38.

Met Jeff at SAAC 7 in Great Gorge, talked about Panteras, and had many discussions thereafter.  Not enough words to express the loss to his family and the SAAC community.  God Speed

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / Car in House Fire
June 11, 2025, 06:40:11 AM
Saw this news report this morning about a deadly house fire in NJ.  The news footage included the front of the garage.  The chrome trim around the grille opening caught my attention but not sure what make it is.

Hey Coralsnake (Was your plate bracket installed?)

I owned 3860 decades ago and when purchased it was a very used street/drag strip car. Normal mods: scatter shield, P/S delete, Hurst shifter, Cragar wheels, smog delete, ram air cleaner delete, starter delay delete, aluminum intake manifold, replaced carb; BUT the front plate bracket was there as the car was originally sold in New Jersey. Hard to see in the before pictures and was not reinstalled afterwards. It also had the original spare tire.

Quick Rick story:

At Indy during SAAC19, Rick was there directing traffic (like he had nothing else to do) and I told him how much my kids enjoyed the lunch time parade laps on track days.  When I stated that my 20-month-old son fell asleep in his car seat during the lap, without hesitation Rick said, "must have been going too slow" and waived us on.  We still own that Shelby after 43+ years.

Thanks to Rick and Colleen, Joe

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / Garage Car Accident
March 17, 2025, 10:07:40 AM
Another collector car accident and the car (cars) didn't leave the garage.  Saw this on local news where an out-of-control car hit this garage. Looks like the Corvette was above the Nova on storage lift.

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / Re: Fiberfab History Video
February 11, 2025, 03:05:57 PM
In the mid-1970s, someone that I worked with bought one of the GT40 Fiberfab Avenger bodies that was set up for the VW pan and drivetrain.  I remember going to junkyards for parts and particularly removing a Mustang fastback rear glass for him.  As the video states, instructions were essentially nonexistent that required DIY fabrication and made progress very slow.  He left for another job, and I never knew if he finished the car.

While I thought he was crazy for trying to build the car, I later bought a fiberglass dune buggy body which also came without assembly instructions but was much less complicated.  Buggy was built on a shortened 1959 VW bug pan. Thanks for video and memories it brought back.
