Some incredible footage here.

Interesting that the BME Cougars have Magstars on at Tech. but then run Torque Thrusts during the race.

I believe there is a difference between the XR7-G exhaust tips and the '68 Shelby tips.

As per our friend Scott Fuller, the chrome sections are the same but the G tips are longer (due to the longer wheel base of the Cougar?).

Would be interesting to take a close look at the very original G in Don's video. Wonder if the worker grabbed a Shelby tip and a Cougar tip and that is why one tip sticks out more than the other?

Sounds like you are describing a GT-E Cougar.

They got the 427. No 427s in XR7-Gs. Any other engine tho, including Cobra Jets.

Mercury contracted with Shelby Automotive to handle G conversions and kept the GT-E Cougars in-house.

Cougars can be very confusing....

For those who may be interested, Don has come into possession of a very cool XR7-G Cougar, and has done a video going over some of the unique features of the G Cougars.

Don is a good guy. Can't even begin to estimate the positive impact he has had on the hobby.

This is very upsetting. Something we all dread may happen every time we head out in our old cars to a show or cruise-in.

To have that car repaired by a qualified expert will be incredibly expensive.

Best of luck to the owners...

Thanks for posting Dave - for some reason I completely forgot about the show  :-[

Thank you - I have bookmarked it.

For some reason, it no longer shows up as a heading under "The History" on the landing page for me.

Yes, I was wondering that too.

That an important part of the hobby.

Shelby American Racing / Re: vintage photos

Vintage photos are one of my favorite things.

I enjoy looking at them to no end - I just don't make a comment unless I have something of substance to add.

Sitting for a long period, not running and deteriorating has morphed into "barn find".

I LOVE vintage auto illustrations and have always thought the one on this Texaco map was great. Those old maps show up fairly regularly at junk stores and flea markets.

I love how the artist took a lot of liberties. Take a close look at what is exactly going on with that "Mustang".

I see elements of a '67/'68 Shelby and a De Tomaso Mangusta.
