SAAC-49 / SAAC-49 Open Track Info
June 19, 2024, 12:27:40 PM
I seem to be known as the track guy, getting lots of questions about what is needed. So, here is the link to the SAAC website with all the information you need to know.  Please note some of the requirements are not made by SAAC, rather NJMP rules. I run there all the time, so I am aware. Please read and prepare before you leave, so you have no surprises at the track.

Please note the statements on helmets, long sleeves, and gloves. We cannot be responsible for you not doing your prep properly.

Also for your own neck health - 5 & 6 point belts in Cobras, Kits, track cars= HANS recommended.

Cautionary note - Mixing an Airbag equipped car with a 5-point harness WILL result in driver injuries in case of an impact with the bags going off.

Here is the link to the documents: https://www.saac.com/49-forms

I instruct and run at NJMP 6-10 times a year, all groups who rent the track must follow the rules. I'm just trying to help out and avoid any dilemmas later.

Time for our club's oldest annual event - Snakes on the Mountain! This started off as a 1995 "No-Nothing" at Denny Blocker's Harley Dealership, it rained, one car!!!

The event has grown, morphed, transformed, moved around, grown, shrunk, and gotten tastier over the years.

Attached is the flyer for this year's event, hosted by Denny and Joyce Blocker at their hillside retreat. Featured this year is the Cobra's spawn, the Viper. Looks to be quite an interesting look at these V-10 snakes!

Many of us were invited to a special birthday Party for Chuck Cantwell. He just turned 29 again!

His family coordinated with 3-Dog Garage in Boyertown PA and put on an amazing birthday party Saturday afternoon. The guest list was a proverbial Who's Who in the Shelby world including SAAC Board of directors, Rick Kopec, many important SAAC folks (myself included!), as well as special VIP's Aaron Shelby, Gary Patterson, and more. Also present were Penske Race team members from Chuck's tenure there, plus family friends.

As usual, Chuck was extremely humble, not wanting to be in the spotlight.

HUGE Kudos to the Cantwell Falily for putting this together. It was truly a special afternoon!

Hello all Club members!
Our last meeting of 2023 is coming up Monday night December 4, 2023 at Tom Paxson's home, down in "Shelby's Pub". Please RSVP Tom – Cobr427a@aol.com  and get directions if needed. Socializing formally starts around 7:00, business meeting kicks off at 7:30 PM. Pizza will be available as usual, your RSVP helps determine how much to order. The 50/50 at the meeting helps cover the cost.
Lots to get accomplished as well:
2023 Charity event was a success, Len will review. We do have to vote on the Charity amount, so the event can be closed out.
We will have elections for 2024 Club officers. Positions available were described in a club e-mail sent out November 19, 2023.
Do we want to have a Club dinner as in years before? A few members have made suggestions, can we pull it together?
SAAC-49 has been announced, right in our back yard in Jersey! NJMP July 25-27 2024. Some cool things to do being worked on!
Working on 2024 Club events. I'll overview them at the meeting. Should be a fun year!
Looking forwards to seeing everyone there!

SAAC-48 / Popular Ballot Car Show details
May 22, 2023, 07:53:44 AM
While I am not running this part of the event any more, I am helping in the set-up and orchestration of the show as part of the transition to the new show chairmen. Team Shelby will be this year's show chairmen, as they are a co-host of this convention.

The show will be very similar to the show run at Pitt the last time four years ago. The specific awards will be posted shortly, but here is the general set-up:

Participants vote on a top 20 (or 25) popular winners, independent of any class the car is in. Just your favorites. The traditional one ticket per car's voting envelope on the windshield, and each person gets a unique numbered ticket sheet, so no duplicates in any envelope will be counted.

A judging committee will also walk the field, and select a "Best" from a class list of roughly 25 classes, including specific classic and modern Shelby Mustangs, CSX Cobras, all matter of Mustangs, plus the assorted special classes. If a car wins this award, and also gets voted, a "TOP 20", the Top 20 will be removed and given to the next available highest vote getter. One award per car.

There will also be 4 special VIP awards picked by event VIP's, plus a "Best in Show" for the highest vote getter.

Parking will be divided into quarters, with trying to keep it divided into classic Shelby, Modern Shelby, All Mustangs, All other. But, if your group is mixed, you can park together. We're just trying to allow festival parking, but keep it grouped as best we can. Makes it more fun when youcan park and hang out with friends, and the show committee is not going ape-sh*t trying to park by classes. More fun for all.

Now, where the show will be at the track I have no clue, so the bosses will tell all of us that.

Get there early, shine it up, come to the registration table to get your credentials, and enjoy the show!
