Yes exciting sale. Seem that the auction house was taking a little more time for most cars today and there were multiple bidders in the room that helped push the SAAC 50 Concours winning 66 GT350H to what I believe is a new worlds record. So far, the top selling classic Shelby at this years BJ auction.

Not sure what the final cost works out to for the buyer but sure someone will do the math for us :)

This 1966 Shelby GT350-H, serial number SFM6S1618, is powered by its matching-numbers 289ci High-Performance V8 engine with its original drivetrain.

The car was completed on April 18, 1966, and delivered to Carroll Shelby's High-Performance Motors in El Segundo, CA, for dealer preparation before being assigned to the Hertz Los Angeles Airport Agency for rental use.

It was sold in August 1967 and remained in Phoenix, AZ. A concours restoration began in March 2024 using primarily restored original or NOS components and was completed in 2025 under the direction of the SAAC Head Judge for 1966 Shelbys, with the goal of creating the most accurate GT350-H restoration to date.

At SAAC-50 in Sonoma, CA, #1618 earned the Premier Award in Division 2, the highest honor in Shelby concours judging, and remains the only 1966 GT350 to receive this distinction.

Bonjour mon ami,

Practicing my French so when I arrive at McDonalds, I can order my meal properly when I say "French Fries"

Moving to the topic at hand, 1966 Shelby GTH that got SOLD for $420,000 cash money. ( heck we are almost millionaire's now with this documented 66 Hertz sale)

We are in a very exclusive club its the "Hertz Rent a Racer" club

Yes we know that those "66 Bad Boyz" came in assorted colors Wimbledon White, Candy Apple Red, Ivy Green, and Sapphire Blue.

But that "Gansta Raven Black paint with de Gold Le  Mans and side stripes" makes those particularly the "Baddest of the Bad Boyz"

Almost a "Darth Vadarish"  sinister if we do say so.

Well enjoy your new found 1/2 Million Dollar Hertz Mobil car

Until next time do stay WARM !

They lasted but have the look of pressed asbestos so they probably got banned.
It's the CA state rock: Since 1965, serpentine has been the State Rock, the first such designation for any state. The choice of serpentine was an economic one. Serpentine is a source of asbestos, which was widely used in construction and other industries. With more serpentine than any other state, California benefitted financially from this mineral.

The white intake gaskets Ford used in the late 60's early 70's were allegedly asbestos based.  They were unbelievably hard to break loose a took a lot of scrapping and digg8ng to clean up. Same thing for the front pump gaskets on the automatic transmission
Probably shortened my life a few years working that environment back then. But it was fun
