Anyone with a lick of sense knows not to post the Ford VIN on a public site.

Interesting '65. It says "radio delete" but the unrestored pictures show a radio. And was a radio standard equipment that had to be deleted from the order, or was it an option that had to be specifically ordered?

Radio was a option.

Correct, our 1969 1/2 BOSS 302 does not have a radio on the Emminger Invoice, so it would not have a radio in the car, instead it has a radio "Block off plate".

In the case of 65-67 Shelby cars did it mean that just because the car was not ordered with a radio did it mean that the car didn't have one when the first owner took delivery. It was common for Shelby to order cars without radios so as to make additional profit on that option when they (SA ) instead had a radio installed at high Performance Motors. If SA didn't install a radio a dealer could install one at comparable wholesale cost and make more profit on the car just like what SA would do. Ford in later years closed this loop hole with price increases which put the factory option as the most cost effective way for a customer.

Thanks Bob and John, good to know the facts. In the Corvette world, many make the mistake of saying "radio delete" for Corvettes without a radio, but the radio had to be ordered as part of the options, it was not standard equipment, so saying it was "delete" is incorrect. Not like a "heater delete" type terminology, since heaters were standard equipment and needed to be "deleted" if they weren't wanted.

Unless the checkbox for a radio was added to the order sheet, or in the case with Shelby's, a DSO, then there would be no radio installed.  A radio for the early years was an option, not standard equipment.

Thanks Charles, it seems some owners think the "delete" terminology adds a special aura to the car, so it is often misused.

It's too common a term to attempt to correct every time it comes up, no harm no foul.

The heater could be 'deleted', so that would be a proper term.  For '65 Mustangs, front seat belts could also be deleted for a credit.

Radio Delete is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me, so I usually get a little bit, "Really a radio wasn't standard equipment." Hence my "instead it has a radio "Block off plate"." Answer above....can you use double quote marks without the ghost of your 7th grade English teacher haunting you?

I don't know about that but I can see why a red flag might be raised given the appearance of the welded in panel with the Ford VIN.

As long as it was disclosed to buyers prior to the sale.

Should not be a surprise to no one.

Again $650,000 - cash money great sale!

Yes. It's privately owned in one of the nicest all in door facilities in the country. They run a dealer style auction weekly, but 3-4x a year hold an antique auction. The owner does it because he enjoys it. Has the potential to be on best auctions out there due to their venue.

Remember when the car was found (pre-restoration) and some one asked about the specific car here on this site.

5S033 (https://www.saac.com/forum/index.php?topic=12944.msg107933#msg107933)

If I recall correctly it was located in a shop south east of me. A potential buyer contacted me about going to look at it when it popped up for sale.

At that time it was for sale on the Hemmings site in 2020

Could just be paint build up around the VIN stamp, certainly requires further inspection.

It was for sale in 2020, advertised for $350k, on a rotisserie.

Actually, I purchased # 33 right after Covid with the help of Craig Conley.
The previous owner had lost his job due to the pandemic and had to sell it.

Venice cars are special.

It ended up in PA at a restoration shop.

Left front inner may have been replaced, therefore had to weld in Vin number?

I'm not defending the car nor do I have anything to do with it, but think we'd have to see bare metal pics to make that determination.
