The Shelby American (Summer 2022)
The SHELBY AMERICAN Summer 2022 29 Young is hard at work (if you can call it that) finding pictures of Shel- bys – wherever he’s getting them. He will not tell us – only that it’s his “secret source” and he’s protect- ing it like it was Col. Sanders’ recipe for his fried chicken. Young spotted this toy roll-back truck carrying a ‘66 GT350 on the back at a Target. Hutchison’s antenna alerted with the mention (in the NY Times ) of the ending of the run of the Broad- way play “Aladdin” by the lead actor giving up his cobra staff. “Hollywood Knights” was a movie released in 1980 that was a thinly- veiled facsimile of George Lucas’ “American Graffiti” made seven years earlier. It’s a film about the mischievous antics and practical jokes of a Beverly Hills car club turned social fraternity. It featured a lot of hot rods and some street rac- ing, including one short snippet of a blown ‘57 Chevy racing a silver 427 Cobra. The Cobra (CSX3295) was in- teresting because it was an original car (this was before the Cobra replica movement) but has a roll bar that is both rear-braced (427) and forward-braced (289). Ted Warren’s brother Gary passed this along to him, and he handed it off to us. Tom Dankel was on a business trip, having a solitary dinner in a restau- rant that had a TV playing assorted music videos. One was Grand Funk Railroad’s “American Band” which pic- tured a Pantera. When he got back to his hotel he found it on YouTube. Young came across an old guy in Naples, Florida wearing this Mustang shirt. It’s about 30 years old, so forget about trying to buy one today. Warren’s younger brother sent him this YouTube video of a 1980s song by Level 42 called “Something About You.” Cobra is RHD: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wb ydKAFtJAc
