The Shelby American (Summer 2022)

The SHELBY AMERICAN Summer 2022 28 We received this sighting from Ted Warren of Golden Cobra spandex leggings with holographic snake- skin design. They are priced at $69.99. Warren went into a tortur- ously detailed explanation of how he was looking on Amazon for something else – a Mardi Gras shirt for this year’s ball – and these disco clothes popped up. All we could think of was the line from Shakespeare’s Hamlet , “ The lady doth protest too much, methinks .” Young’s visit to the NSRA South’s street rod meet in Tampa, Florida last December rewarded him with this Cobra banner. There’s a big business in creating banners and signs to deco- rate garages and vendors are only lim- ited by their imagination – certainly not by anything Shelby American pro- duced back in the day. Walking into work one morning Warren’s eye was attracted to the tires on one of his partners’ cars. They were on a Torino – not that that mattered. The original 30K- mile car belonged to his grand- mother. She had good taste in tires. Hutchinson saw this Cobra In A Basket kid’s game in a Sharper Image catalog. A bit pricey at $79.95. Batteries not included. Randy Sands spotted this ‘66 GT350 in the movie “Apollo 13”. This small photo was in the corner of full page ad for flooring and Young spotted before he even knew what was being advertised. Master eagle eyes just have that knack. Randy Sands spotted this Miller beer tray that was advertised on Craigslist for $200. We can’t recall a Miller beer ad campaign using a Cobra. Warren was looking at a website that contained info on restoring a ‘65 Jaguar. The picture showed Ron Ran- dall’s office at Metal-Morphous, a paint shop in Wallingford, Connecti- cut. Warren was intrigued that Ran- dall had a Cobra replica sitting there. The paint was 16 years-old and still perfect.
