The Shelby American (Summer 2022)
The SHELBY AMERICAN Summer 2022 26 Barrett-Jackson sells apparel on their website and also at their auctions. They seemingly have something for everyone and they haven’t forgotten Cobra or Shelby enthusiasts. Yep, that’s a Cobra. Spotted in an issue of Hagerty Drivers Club maga- zine. Denny Blocker spotted this ad for a video in something called the “Sinclair Better Sex” flyer. We’ll sidestep the whole question of what Blocker was doing with this flyer in the first place, but the ad says, “ The movie Shelby fans have been begging for .” It must be true, because there are truth in adver- tising laws, but we can’t verify that anybody we know has been begging for this movie. Except, maybe, Pardee. We may have to borrow a copy from him (his extensive collection is leg- endary, rivaling the late King Farouk of Egypt) and study the subject thor- oughly. The things we do for SAAC... When it happens to some other eagle- eye we are amazed. Cobra-related stuff – small, almost invisible things or major, billboard sized – just seems to find them. Then, it happens to us, we’re even more flabbergasted. We opened an obvious piece of junk mail the other day and it was an offer for these Cobra brand walkie-talkies. We didn’t have to do anything! They just found us. There’s an explanation for that but it’s probably best explained by Rod Serling. We can picture himt now: “ Imagine if you will, someone who spents most of his life reporting on the findings of others who stumble onto arcane and often random refer- ences to cobras, when suddenly..... ” Seiji Kishi spotted this Shelby on Fox News, being auctioned off for the Ukraine Relief Fund. Certainly a wor- thy cause. Pro photographer Jim Peters is presently working on a project to recreate the Mr. Formal Wear tux poster. If this was before your time, back in 1978 SAAC members Bill and Bud Jones ran a tuxedo rental shop in Roanoke, Virginia. They had a catalog with the photo of a model posing next to their red 427 Cobra, CSX3102, on the cover. They made a poster out of it and it was wildly popular in the 1980s. Peters is going to recreate the poster with a different model. This is one of the “tests” he was involved with. We’ll keep you posted when these posters become available.
