The Shelby American (Summer 2022)
The SHELBY AMERICAN Summer 2022 24 This quarter-page ad in a recent issue of Sports Car Market magazine caught our attention because of the ‘65 GT350 depicted. We went to artist David Townsend’s website to see what posters were available and we were surprised by the variety and quantity. Also somewhat surprised by the prices: a 22˝ x 16˝ prints is in the $300 range. He has several Shelby products in his portfolio. Mecum has come up with an interesting racket: they use oversized, 6´ x 12´ banners to promote their auctions with im- ages of popular cars on them. When the event is over they auction them off on their website. They make neat garage decorations. The Cobra or Shelby banners go for about $150 or more (probably a lot less than their cost). It’s a win-win. Vincent Liska spotted this Cobra brandy snifter on eBay described as “vintage Ford Motor Company Cobra brandy snifter.” Not quite. These snifters were sold to promote Chris- tian Bros. Cobra brandy, which was available back in the 1970s-1980s. They were sold in liquor stores. The glasses have no connection to FoMoCo. Not too many SOA ashtrays were sold in 1973 so they are rare today.
