The Shelby American (Summer 2022)

The SHELBY AMERICAN Karl and Joan Eiselben are still happily rolling up the miles on 6S819. They have probably driven the car in more rallyes than any other Hertz car. And quite possibly, any other Shelby. The latest event they participated in was the Copperstate 1000 in Arizona. They sent us these pictures. On Main Street in Winslow their Hertz car is shown just across the street from the “Standing On A Cor- ner Park.” Note: the flatbed Ford parked at the curb is not there by co- incidence. The town was made famous by the Eagles’ hit song, “Take It Easy” written by Glenn Frey and Jackson Browne. It was the group’s first single, released on May 1, 1972. It peaked at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. There are also bronze statues on the sidewalk of Glen Fry and Don Henley so people can have their pictures taken with them. The Eagles put Winslow on the map, and the town probably couldn’t squeeze any more out of this song if they tried. There were four other Shelbys sharing the road in this year’s Copper- state 1000: Dan Weltman (6S1474), Colin Comer (6S319), Jim McDowell (8T03S174942-02405 and Jere Clark (5S140). The picture below was taken in Seligman, Arizona, between Flagstaff and Kingman. The Eiselben’s have a full year: their next event is The 2022 Great Race (Warwick, Rhode Island to Fargo, North Dakota). And then in Septem- ber, the Temple Rally, starting in Athens, Greece, going through Sicily and finishing in Rome. Be assured we’ll have the story!
