Then through the town of Snydersburg past the Simmons coun- try store—that still makes homemade ice cream—and into Hampstead to our destination Green Mount Station for lunch. We had front row parking. It was indoor seating and we had the a whole area to ourselves. Then the pandemic hit. The Gover- nor shut down everything, including restaurants and our Cars & Coffee. While being on lock-down for most of three months, we did do a couple 20- car drive-by birthday parties. There wasn’t a problem with six-foot social distancing in our cars. By the end of April the state opened up outside din- ing. We have a friend that has an ice cream shop and an Italian restaurant with endless outside dining. I organ- ized a group leaving from my home and we headed into Pennsylvania. We stopped in Bonneauville for a twenty- minute tour through a restoration shop, continuing through Gettsyburg and a rest room stop, into Caledonia State Park and another stop at the Hunterstown truck stop on Rt. 15. Down through Biglersville past Mus- selmans, the apple capital of the world. Back to Hanover, Pennsylvania. I pre-ordered pizzas for lunch and then we went to the Big Dipper for ba- nana splits. This was a three-and-a- half-hour round trip . In the middle of May we met at the Hereford & Rt. 83 Park & Ride we the headed up Mount Carmel Road, cross- ing Pretty Boy Dam bridge. We drove up and down all the cork-screws and the switch-backs around the reservoir. This is the closest we have to the Tail of the Dragon. We passed through River Valley Ranch that is nested in a desolate wooded area of northern Car- roll County and is a weekly summer camp or overnight retreat for pre- teens. It is like a miniature Dodge City cowboy town.
