The Shelby American (Fall 2021)
The SHELBY AMERICAN Fall 2021 23 British artist Robert Carter had been drawing cars and motorcycles since he was a kid. There was no question what he wanted to do when he grew up. At fifteen he served as an apprentice in a commercial art studio where he learned the basics of illustration, let- tering, airbrush and design. He went freelance in 1971 and has been work- ing steadily ever since. These posters are 24˝ x 36˝ and sell for about $240 each (including shipping). His website is www.robertcarterartwork.com Diecast collectors will be happy to hear that they can continue to build their collections thanks to the Hamilton Collection. This 1/18-scale 260 Cobra, British Racing Green with tan interior, is only $137.96. “Cobra bites reader for thousands in expenses” was the headline that caught Steve Sloan’s eagle eye in the weekly newspaper The Pasadena Cit- izen (Pasadena, Texas). But it didn’t refer to a snake or a car. It concerned the exciting subject of health care. As most government bureaucrats know, this Cobra stands for “Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act” and the bite referred to was decidedly financial. We’ve witnessed a number of eagle eyes who have had their heart- beats elevated by references to this government acronym. It’s a real buzz- kill.
