The Shelby American (Fall 2021)
The SHELBY AMERICAN Fall 2021 15 Hank The Deuce ’ s Hi-Po Mustang Convertible Two issues ago we ran a photo of Edsel Ford’s sixteenth birthday pres- ent, a modified 1965 Mustang Hi-Po fastback. It turns out that his father, Henry Ford II, also had a special Mus- tang. That car was shipped to France for HFII to use at LeMans in 1966. During the event’s opening cere- monies HFII reportedly used the car to take a lap of the track. Following the race the Mustang stayed in France where it was displayed at numerous Mustang-related events until being sold to a chain of French owners. It went across the block at the Barrett- Jackson Las Vegas auction in June, 2021 where it sold for $300,000. The car is a 1966 one-of-a-kind, high-optioned convertible powered by a 289 Hi-Po backed by a four-speed and 3.89 rear end. Among the special features are a white leather convert- ible top, custom tan interior with Cougar seats and a reconfigured dash and a “HF-II” steering wheel cap.
