Side-Oilers

Hey everyone,
I thought this was a good topic to finally come out of lurking mode and say hello.

I've been a SAAC member since 1981, and a KR owner since 1982.  Day 2 modded, with a PO-installed iron 427 FE in the late 1970s. Has a 468 aluminum FE now.  I love this car, and it is truly the last thing I would ever sell in my life.  We've been through a lot together.

As my handle suggests, I'm a BB guy.  I've driven SB Cobras and Shelbys and can definitely appreciate their attributes.  But, I love the look, sound and massive thrust of a healthy big block.

I feel like I know a lot of you already, from years of reading your posts. Several of you were of generous help when I brought my KR out of hibernation a few years ago. Kiwi was a longtime friend.

Thanks for allowing me to chime in.  Here's pix of my KR as it was when I purchased it in 1982 (bottom) and as it is today.

Great car, thanks for sharing!  Love it in white.

Love the wheels, Tires and rake in 1982! American Racing 200's?

Side-Oilers

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.

2112: Yep, American 200 "daisy" wheels.  The slang in SoCal at the time for those wheels was "petal leafs."
Spent many a night cruising Van Nuys Blvd, looking for races, back in those days.
I remember how treacherous the car was on those BFGs anytime there was even a mist of water on the road.  Instant sideways, if you even breathed on the throttle or touched the brakes.  Fun learning experience!

Here's a pix from the paddock at Riverside Raceway in '82.

I don't mean to hijack this thread about SB and BB cars.  Just wanted to introduce myself.  Thanks again.

Being 54, I am still stuck in the time zone where those wheels and tires (we called them Coke bottle Americans) were the Shebang.

I will just always love that set up. I believe you that the BFG's were not great. Especially if cold wet roads are very uncommon.

Only in my own mind...ha!
I have huge respect for all those here with much more experience/knowledge than me.

I'm just an old car scribbler, like Kiwi. (I hired him, long ago. He was an awesome guy, in all the ways. Miss him!)
