I am not sure if this red plastic cap is original to the car and any help would be appreciated in identifying the cap. Hope the details are shown in the photos. Any help on how the remove the cap to restore the base plate or leave on and paint around the cap?

I purchased this car from the original owners who purchased in Oct of 67 and finding a lot of original parts still on the car as I go thru cleaning and detailing.

Not original and could be from so odd source unconnected to autos. Sure someone will take up the challenge and or run it through AI to find its original purpose.

Think most of use have done something similar at some point in the past when we dropped or lost something while working on or servicing the car - especially in a location where some would think, "no one will see or notice it here". Does look somewhat familiar and shaped similar to a cap for the top of the tire inflator canister for a space save spare only larger.

I would add that the 65-66 GT350's used the closed emission breather cap that vented by way of a hose to the air cleaner base. That cap or any cap for that matter on the air cleaner base would not be original to the car from SA.

TY, Jeff and Bob. Currently I have a push on breather cap with no provisions for a hose to connect the base as you mentioned. Look like I need to buy the correct set up.

It would be this one .It is a very nice repro with correct markings. The correct one for 65/66 had the FOMOCO in script inside the oval. https://www.npdlink.com/product/oil-filler-and-breather-cap-push-on-style-chrome-fomoco/105522

One of the few repro parts that look nicer then the genuine. Flaws in the genuine distinguish the two.

Bob, I saw the one from NPD and it shows the FOMOCO in an oval and noticed Branda has one that shows the FOMOCO in a square. Would the NPD be more accurate? Interesting the Branda is $22.00 less

The FOMOCO in the oval is for 65/66 and early 67 GT350. The FOMOCO in the rectangle is for late 67 -70 GT350 and was intermixed with AUTOLITE marked caps during those time periods.

Not only the flaws, there are more significant differences.

Not enough significant differences that the good repro would get a deduction in SAAC DIVII or MCA trailered concours. ;)

Here is a picture of 1134.  I believe the cap, hose and clamps are original. You cannot view this attachment.

At hose is awfully pristine For being an original?

If it starts it's streetable.
Overkill is just enough.

Here are two original hoses.  You can see the long full length hose "stripes" formed in the rubber that identified the supplier.

For those who don't have the original "formed hose" a short length of ribbed hose will work well as a convincing authentic substitute. That is if it is thick enough wall hose so as to allow the hose not to kink or collapse on that somewhat tight bend it has to make going to the air cleaner base nipple.
